Tagboards

Figured this question went best here, since it's technical in nature and not about drawing technique and such. Anyway, how does one implement a tagboard on one's site?

If you do a web search for "tag boards" you'll find some sites that offer them. The best known site is probably
Tag-Board.com. After you register with them, you're given the code that you just copy and paste into your page and voila! it works! And they give you an administration section as well to help customize and moderate it.

I had one from tag-board.com for one whole day and my site kept getting popups like crazy whenever I was on it. I got rid of it and haven't seen any since.

I use one from
Tag-Board.org, myself. It doesn't seem create pop-ups (at least, not in Firefox).

There's also Shoutbox, which is also ad free.
However, Tag-Board.com is very much loaded up with ads. Don't get one if you want your admins to keep their hair! (Those who seen me in St. Louis know how much hair I don't have up top)

I tried a couple until I found one I liked. I didn't like the look of tagboard and Shoutbox wasn't working properly for me half the time. I finally settled on the one from
http://www.shoutmix.com. That one has worked well for me. There are instructions on the site on how to set it up. Just choose a style and insert the code it gives you into your web site.

I used
Tag-World for a good while there, but finally decided to cut out my Tagboard in the hopes of making the forum more active. (And to keep me from constantly refreshing to see what people were saying.)
I had no pop-ups, but it was getting a little laggy towards the end.

The only thing people need to keep in mind when using tagboards is to make sure it has an id attribute, otherwise the newsbox and advertisement sections will screw up (this is totally the fault of the javascript used for the tagboards)

Went to a few of those sites, and found it weird that Tag-board.org and Tag-world.com have nearly identical text (including some of the same typing and grammar errors). I suppose I should assume that they're mirror sites operated by the same people.

I personally preffer using a shoutbox to a tagboard, because it's prettier and ad-free. I use myshoutbox.com, which is free and rather easy to configure.

I checked out all the ones listed here.. cuz I wanted a nice shoutbox or tagbaord but that didn't look wacky with the rest of my site design. Of all of them, I'm the most pleased with myshoutbox.com. I can just link to a pop up window with the shoutbox in it, and it's ad-free AND it's inobtrusive to my comic.

I'm very happy with it. Now if people will just post there..

I used tag-world and it won't show up properly on my page. You can't add anything to it. I am probably doing something wrong. If someone could take a look and see what I might have coded wrong I would appreciate it. I'll try myshoutbox too since people seem to like it.

If you want help, you should probably post a link to your page. We're not psychic.

SPEAK FOR YOURSELF.
I used to have a tag-board.com one, with my new site I switched to Cbox.
Smooth like buttah.

Kirb, your page design is so unique, I love it! I'll give C-Box a try. Myshoutbox has too much extra stuff on the sign up page.

I got impatient with it.

Totally forgot about this...
I took a look at Cbox, and it says that the free service has ads. I assume everybody that posted here bought the Premium service, then, because I didn't get any pop-ups when I visited your sites.
