Some of our strip archives are out of comission

Post by [geoduck] »

I discovered tonight that my strips' archives are unavailable back beyond April 26 of this year; if I try to access any of them, I get a 404 error message. The files are still in The System; I checked via FTP.

And it's not just me; Legostar Galactica, Angry D. Monkey, and Tales of the Questor are having the same problem.

It's not universal, though; Role of the Die and Emergency Exit are still accessable.

Hopefully it's just a temporary glitch, but if not.. help!

anyone else still experiencing the problem as of 11pm Pacific?

I've run two maintenance items today, one of them re-did the directory permissions.

I just checked again and replied in the other thread. Yep, something's still playing silly buggers with mine from the start in June last year to April 26.

Someone'll figure it out.

I'm not sure whether I need to mention it here, but my archives are also damaged; everything before 20050427 in my public_html/d/ folder is missing.

My thanks go out to Kisai and anyone else for working to fix this problem.

Mine are down to, I've checked my FTP or whatever, the images are still there in the public comics folder, but the webpages in the d folder have dissapeared..
I'm just planning on cutting the images from the comic folder and putting them in in the comics folder in workspace.
I'm not sure if this will work though.

Seems to be a pretty widespread error:

did any of you happen to do a full update before it went on the blink, by any chance?

I'm still having this problem.
My archives disappear at http://shifters.keenspace.com/d/20050422.html

My front page wasn't generating either, there was a . being left out of the urls, so it was coming up http://www.shifterskeenspace.com as the domain.
I did a manual update and it seemed to fix it.

But my archives are still toast.

I haven't done a full update in ages, so I'm guessing that isn't a universal cause.

I'm looking through keenspace, haven't found anyone with an intact archive yet. Me, ghastly, Merc, K-Dawg, CJ, StrRedwolf, etc. None of us have archives.

Had the archive problem as well, but I just moved the comics which didn't have /d pages out of /public_html/comics into /workspace/comics and did a full update. Seems to have cleared things right up.

All the archives previous to May dissapeared. I did a full update yesterday, just in case it serves anyone to find out what happened.

As others have said, it appears large chunks of people's "public_html/d" folders somehow got deleted. Perhaps the problem will fix itself, but I wouldn't count on it.

Mercury Hat's suggestion works. If you don't already use it, I can recommend SmartFTP as an excellent way to carry out the operation. It does the job and it's free!

Missing mine too, goes back to april of this year and then disapears.

All of my comic jpgs are on the server, but the archive pages themselves are MIA.
