midgear wrote:ok i read your message about the dropdown for my comic, but it's not working. my dropdown.txt is:

#1 On Fire!,/d/20040523.html
#2 How Did You Find This Out?,/d/20040529.html
#3 Ummm Can You Get this one?,/d/20040601.html
#4 Cash,/d/20040603.html
#5 You think?,/d/20040606.html

and i put ***story_archive***
I checked http://happybutdead.keenspace.com/works ... opdown.txt and got a 404 instead of a 403. This probably means your dropdown.txt file doesn't exist. You'll need to make the directory /workspace/data and upload your dropdown.txt file to it.

The # sign is a comment for Perl and unix shell scripts. I'm not sure if that's the case for this file particularly, but you might have uploaded a file that is effectively empty. So, intead of #1, use 1.

Other than that, your dropdown.txt file looks fine. I would check the filename and make sure it's uploaded to the right place first (exact filename and exact directory including case required as far as I know). If everything looks right, try fixing the # sign.

Okay, I was having the same problem as the first guy-- some of my pages had simply disappeared after being the comic of the day. I noticed that there wasn't anything for them in the /d file so I removed them all from public_html/comics and transferred them all back over to workspace/comics. I deleted the things in /d and I did a full update. Nothing changed except my indexpage which became the new daily comic (I had renamed one because it looked like the transfer of my daily comic had been interupted for some reason and it was only partially there). The First comic and previous comic buttons were still active but when you clicked on them you got an error page. I decided to move the comics back to public_html. Everything I tried to transfer back to the public_html file gave me this message in my FTP program: RNFR /workspace/comics/20040601.jpg
550 /workspace/comics/20040601.jpg: No such file or directory
Soon after, ALL of the comics I had transferred to my workplace directory had disappeared completely. There was not even a link to them in the workplace directory. I think I did a full update about 4 times tonight and all of my previously archived comics are gone, even my original comic.
(the sad thing is that I started posting a filler comic to give me time to work on something else and now that's all that's on my site. -_-;)
After all that, I finally closed my FTP program. I re-started it and lo and behold my files were back in public_html. I did a full update yet again and none of the files are in /d again yet, but at least I don't have to upload them all again... I'm just going to wait until tomorrow and see if it gets sorted out by then.

your dailytemplate.html isn't there (it should be in /workspace, right next to the indextemplate) upload one (it can be identical with indextemplate)

indextemplate is used to generate index.html
and daily templace is used for /d/yyyymmdd.html pages

Then reupload all the comics and run update.
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.
