keenspace newsbox

Post by Lintjinks »

i've read the faqs and the tutorials, and although it's very clear in order to get on the newsbox we need to make a 150x300 image, i can't quite figure out what we're supposed to DO with the image after we've made it.

thanks : )

Upload the banner to your account (/workspace/images) then list it as a banner in siteadmin. When siteadmin updates and recognizes it as a banner, scroll to the bottom of the comic info page in siteadmin and check that you want to use it as a newsbox banner. It may take a day for the guide to load up your newsbox pic and it may take longer before you actually see it in a newsbox. Be patient with it. These things happen in their own time.

To get the newsbox to display on your page, you need to have ***newbox*** somewhere on there.

I'll add that to the guides once I stop having exams

Does anyone know the frequency that the banners in the Newsbox are cycled? It seems that I see many of the same sites everytime I open a page with the Newsbox on it. In the past day the sites I've seen the most are:

Alex and Ilia (almost constantly)
Clique
Station V3
Get Stuffed
TwitchGenius
Cortland
Honor Among Slackers

There may be others, but these are the ones that I almost always see when I go to my page or other 'spacers' pages. I'm just wondering if the frequency of your banner appearing in the Newsbox is related to how popular (or how often) your site is visited. Or is it a completely random deal, where everytime someone visits a site that has a newsbox, a random site that has a banner is featured. Or even worse, are these the only sites that have provided banners for the Newsbox?

Just curious as I have just recently put my banner online and I'm currently waiting patiently to see it. Okay, so, I'm not so patient, but I'm still waiting and not complaining online. But either way, I had not really paid too much attention to the frequency of updates till I made my banner and started watching the Newsbox more closely.

Yanno, I was wondering about that myself... I'm also curious if there's a maximum amount of KB our newsbox banner can be. Mine's pretty darn big.

I think Kisai mentioned to try and keep it below 40kb. Personally I say the smaller the better.

In effect, smaller newsboxes may be better than big ones most of the time, since you'll want your potential readers to SEE the newsbox, not to see it loading.

Of course, if you have really fast internet connection; null point.
