about getting rid of ones accounts

Hi there,
I was wondering where I would turn to have my accounts terminated.
I currently have two spaces on Keenspace
http://icelandicmania.keenspace.com
and
http://freakofnature.keenspace.com
I have reached to the point that I simply have no time to start up again what I intented and my interests are seeking elsewhere, so these two accounts are probably just a burden on your server anyway
Also would probably be a good idea to throw away the Icelandic Mania forum from the list and into the trash

Give em to someone! They aren't accepting new applications right now, so you could really help an aspiring web-comicer-maker out. Or you could try auctioning it off to the high bidder... Those things aren't easy to get!

I'm afraid I will not give the icelandicmania account away and will respectfully request that it is terminated. the name Icelandic Mania still follows me as a trademark, and I would rather not others use it.
there is a change though that I could be convinced otherwise with the freakofnature.keenspace.com

I'm afraid the account will not get deleted.
Don't worry, if you're not using it, it uses next to no resources, so it's not a problem.
Just put a little disclaimer that it's over, possibly your e-mail (You say it's your trademark, yet maybe you'll meet someone who manages to convince you it's their trademark too

), make sure to include the ***advertisement***, and it will be ok.

This brings up a topic I've been wanting to know more about.
I'm one of the very few who came up with the name of my strip LAST. I had characters, comics, events, everything but what to call it.
So my site is MY name. Not the comic name.
I had hoped to delete this account, and then restart it anew under the name "therules.keenspace.com". I had read that keenspace appreciated that they be informed if people were going to drop comics.
Now that there are no new signups, I've had to put that on hold.
But the future intent remains: When everything is working again, I intend to delete the first account completely and then start with a new one using the same comic but with a proper site name.
Will this put a burr in someone's saddle? Is this ok to do? I figured if I let them know, and did everything by the book it would be ok. I would only lose readership that I probably don't even have yet.
anyway, an official answer to the "wrong comic site name migration" problem would help me a lot.

I think "yer screwed" is about as official as it gets.
The admins are cleaning up after a nearly complete server meltdown, a forum crash that lost a huge chunk of forum posts, not to mention the random complaints over the last year about changes to keenspace and the guide and the real repairs that are taking place right now (news box). For the amount of trouble deleting accounts can cause, you're unlikely to make it happen anytime in the year to come.

They don't delete idled strips, even on request?
I'm driven to ponder how many dead soldiers we got lying unburied on the field, in that case.

I think 8000, at least...
check
the guide
Total: 12768 of comic sites and a
Total: 1941 of comic sites that had new comics recently.
I'm not sure how recently means recently, but my site was last updated 2 weeks ago, and it's still recently updated.
That gives us 10k+ of comics that were NOT recently updated.
Mr.Ekshin check out Mr.Bob's "
StarBored"
I must say I can never remember the url, because it's his name, and it's spelled really weird.

Yeah. I actually had requested "Starbored" originally, but then I never got anything after the confirmation E-mail so I don't really know what happened to that.
I then requested one with my name and it took less than a week. So I'm stuck with that.
No-one complains though (or everyone who does want to complain cannot remember my site again so can't anyway) so I have no reason to change it yet.

That's funny, actually; I've already read his entire strip, and got there from clicking a link.
I never noticed that his actual sitename wasn't called "starbored"!
Well, that's great, and makes a perfect example for me to relax and just get on with my comic.
Thanks!

I pretty much feel that as long as someone has ".keenspace" on the end, it's not terribly important. My site is the name of my comic. That should make it pretty easy to remember. However, any time I tell a friend the name, I have to explain that they *can't* put www on the front, and they have to remember ".keenspace". That's kinda arbitrary for anyone who isn't already familiar with keenspace.
People always end up saying "just e-mail me the link". If I ever get my own domain, then I'll be able to get something simple and easy for people to remember. Until then, I think word of mouth won't be effective anyway, it'll all come from people clicking on a link and hopefully hitting "bookmark".

Yeah.
It gets double difficult if your language isn't english
Exact quote:
bez www, nowhere to znaczy "nigdzie", dot mam na mysli kropke, keenspace, umm, to sie pisze Kah-eh-eh-en-space, dot, com.
(where
"bez" means "without"
www is pronounced vu-vu-vu
"to znaczy"="that means"
"nigdzie"="nowhere"
"kropka"="dot" (it appears as "kropke" because "kropka" is used when it's the subject, and other forms are used if it's an object)
"to sie pisze"="it's spelled"/"it's written as"
)

The reason you can't put www. in front is because the site domain isn't
http://www.somename.keenspace.com, it's somename.keenspace.com . If you put a www in front, then the system looks for a username called
http://www.somename
If people are NOT intelligent enough to use their bookmark system in the web browser, or click on a link to it from somewhere else, than they should not own a computer.
I work at a place that deals with cell phones, there are people out there that should not own a cell phone because they can't turn the things on.

I mentioned in another thread that maybe some comics should be released on DVD, because people aren't smart enough to use computers.

My personal motto.
Kisai wrote:I mentioned in another thread that maybe some comics should be released on DVD, because people aren't smart enough to use computers.
You mean people are smart enough to use DVDs? Or more importantly: "normal" people can get it set up and working without serious technical help?
Anyway, thanks for all your recent work, Kisai. DVD = stage 1, computer = stage 2, servers = (overflow: divide by zero error).

Assuming one can at least get a DVD player hooked up (weither it involves getting the neighbours geek kid to hook it up) DVD at least only requires putting the disc in (maybe even hitting "play")

I knew I should have put "I'm not complaining".
I really didn't mean it to be a complaint. I understand that there are reasons for these things.
As far as "if people are not intelligent enough" is concerned, it's not really an issue of stupid. It's just that word of mouth campaigns work best when something is simple and familiar. Telling someone to go to a keenspace site is more error prone than saying "Hey, you should check out real life comics dot com". When someone has never actually seen the comic, there's not a lot of motivation for them to remember a lot of complex instructions to go see it.
Just remembering whether or not a site name has underscores between the words or not is enough to make me forget how to get there sometimes. Especially if someone tells me about a site at lunch and I try to go there when I get home.
So yeah, the bookmark system works fine, which is the point I was trying to make about why the name of the site practically doesn't matter. Since people on the web are just clicking links, then the name doesn't matter to them. Since the name is already too complex for word of mouth, then that's not really something you need to worry about until you've taken the next step of getting your own domain name.

Get a domain like you said,
http://www.questofthesilly.com (it's not in use at the moment 8) ) and point it at questofthesilly.keenspace.com. That way you can tell them to go to questofthesilly.com and they still end up at questofthesilly.keenspace.com.
The bookmark system only works if you use the same computer to visit these sites every time. I'm one of those people who bounces between several different computers depending on where I am. My only option was to make a bookmark website for my homepage. (I still don't remember what the address of the Keenspace login page is. I have a link for that.)

Heh, I do that too. I keep the comics I visit most at the bottom of my site so I don't have to type them in.

I used to carry a piece of paper with all the links.
I've developed a series of tricks to make it easier:
ie. instead of
http://www.exploitationnow.com I'd just write
.exploitationnow.
instead of strangecandy.keenspace.com I'd write
strangecandy.K
