Unknown Tag

I tried looking for the answer to this over at the gear but wasn't able to find an answer there so I thought...
anywho, is there a way to insert a tag in the index page (or more exactly, the indextemplate.html page) that will add another html document to it?
Specifically what I mean is I would like to be able to have a page named something like "news.html". Whenever I have new, I could just go update that instead of all of indextemplate. The comic tags seem to work along those lines, but at least the impression I get is that the news will then follow the comic into the archives and I don't want this.
