New here... HELP?

Post by graydations »

I just tried posting my first question in the "General Forum" and got this message... "This message was flagged as spam and has been denied."

How do I fix this?

I approved your other post and this one to help get your post count up.

Post a reply to this thread with your question. Not sure why your other original posts were flagged as spam though.

Is there not much activity on these types of forums? I mean it took over two months just to get this approved?

There are maybe 5 users here any given week. The forums are, sadly, pretty much dead. I never would have seen your posts because, since it was flagged as spam, it didn't show up in the "new posts" thing which is the thing I click on as soon as I get here.

It was flagged as spam because a few years ago we had what became known as the Spam Apocalypse where spambots were outnumbering the still dwindling number of users at an absurd rate, like 100s of spam posts to 1 real person post. Drastic measures were taken, including the thing that makes people's first posts show up as spam until they're approved. Even the guy who set all that up isn't around as much as he used to be.

I hate to say this stuff because this was my first "home" community on the internet, and I'd love to see it getting more activity again, and new users and so forth, but it's really just a few of us hangers-on.

It makes me sad, really. But, welcome, if you'd like to stick around.

Indeed. I guess everyone wants to host their comic on Tumblr now. I'm just worried someday soon Comicgenesis is going to just decide to end their hosting services.

Which is sad, because tumblr is a super shitty host for anything that is meant to be read in order because its whole system is built on likes and reblogs, not reading a 100+ page archive and having discussions in a comment section.

And honestly I'm surprised CG hasn't already done that, I guess though that there are enough comics still getting enough views for it to make enough money to be worthwhile. But so many things are broken about the system that it's clear anyone in charge packed up and stopped caring a long time ago. It would take serious overhaul and a lot of man hours to really make it a competitively functional site again, and everyone with the authority to make any of those changes has moved on with their lives and the keys to the castle, if you will, never changed hands for some reason.

I wonder how many comics are still hosted AND updating on CG.
