Well, before you *apply*, all you really need to know is the name. Once you apply, you'll probably have a few weeks to get your site ready.
It definitely helps if you have a clear direction before you start. But you sound like an abnormally well-prepared sort of person. I'm sure you'll do fine.
As for picture formats, it depends. GIF or PNG (8 bits) is probably best if you use simple, flat colors. If you do a shaded color comic, use JPGs. For pure black and white, I use GIF/PNG reduced to the 6 web-safe greys.
------------------

Ok, let's pretend I have a comic I want to put up on KeenSpace. (Which is true.) What should I have ready before I start applying to KeenSpace? Judging from previous posts here, there and everywhere else, I need:
A Comic (it's been suggested that 2 months' worth of material ahead of time is a good idea)
A decent FTP program (No one seems to like the web-browser ones)
The time and inclination to keep at it
I /have/ to think I'm missing a few things, here, but I'm not even sure what to ask. Should I put together a web page before I apply? What picture formats work the best? The date sequencing thing seems simple enough, but how could one test it before "going live", so to speak? What other questions should I ask? ^_^
Dave III, The Curious Guy

Cool! In that case, I'll go ahead and sign up now. It's not that I'm abnormally well prepared, I've just seen WAY too many projects (esp. my own) that seemed cool and never go anywhere, I have a certain paranoia about doing it again. Thanks for the info!
Dave III
