or even if it's a small yearly thing to put money aside for new server equipment should the need arise, at least it would expedite repairs to a degree.
Heck, Even a Project Wonderful Ad or two.. one on the main page and one across the top in the forums?

Granted some may think it's selling out... but it's not like it's for a bad reason or anything. You can pick the ads that do or do not go up. and I believe CG could be one of those sites that could get $20-$50 a day.

Well, maybe.

I'd ask the community what they think, if you are worried about CG integrity and not selling out... but if it's to pay for equipment to keep CG going, I think that keeping integrity on the types of ads you allow should be all that would be needed.

Alright... excuse my horrible ignorance

I guess this is a bad time... as I have JUST(and still am in the process of) set up my FIRST webcomic, and i have pretty much no prior html background... and the server is whacked...

my webcomic has not been updated since thursday... even though I have gone to siteadmin a few times to request an update, is there something I'm missing?
I've been doing what I did on thursday, but nothing seems to be happening, and the past few times the queue has said it had only like 10 people in it...

and, since this whole thing is new and so complicated to me, I realize that the admins are doing more in their little finger for CG than I could ever do, and I appreciate it, being part of CG for only about a week

Though not universally, squares are widely regarded as having an even number of sides that has been conjectured by experts in the field to be approximately four.

Try not to request multiple updates.

Things to check:
  • Do you have both indextemplate.html and dailytemplate.html files in the workspace folder?
  • Are they both spelled exactly the right way? Capitals and missing letters will cause it to not work. Likewise, naming them .htm or .xhtml will cause it to not work. They have to be .html extensions.
  • Have you uploaded any comics? If so, are they in the right place? They go in the workspace/comics folder.
  • Are the comics with the right names? For CG they need to be named YYYYMMDD.jpg (or .png or .gif) where Y is the year, M is the month and D is the day. So a comic named 20070614.jpg would have shown up a few days ago and a comic named 20070714.jpg won't go up until next month.
  • Are they the right format? CG supports jpg, png and gif files. Bitmap (bmp), tiff files, psd files and a few others are not supported by CG.
Those are some of the more common mistakes. If you've done all those properly then it may just still be server errors and you'll need to have patience and wait a bit until they show up.

In the meantime, you can keep drawing so that you don't fall behind and/or can build a buffer/

Still playing whack-a-mole with the server.

There are two programs, one processes the queue forward, the other processes it in reverse, so that's why manually punching an update is more instant, as it's being hit by the reverse program. That said, DO NOT manually trigger an update when the automatic updater would do it anyway. essentially the reverse one does not check, or care if you are already scheduled for an update, but if you hit it over and over and over again, it's likely to be caught by both updaters if there is nothing else in the queue. The update in the siteadmin is supposed to delete any previous attempt to update, also by design, but when there is nothing in the queue, the updaters will still grab it.

50 hours up... no crashes. Given, no diagnostics are running, I shut those down temporarily, so it's just apache and autokeen (and mysql)

don't jinx it.

kisai, just outta curiousity, did you manage to nail down what it was that was bringing the system down like that?

Jinxings only occur when you think it, but don't say it.

YOU JERK!

No, seriously, Fundraiser for new CG servers or to replace whatever the frick is messing up. I'll put links on all my sites and even donate some money to that drive. What's a new server? like $4000-$5000 or something?

You may have to sacrifice somethings... (other than time you already are sacrificing.. but then again, with a new a properly functioning system, you should not be working on it as much at all.) Maybe you do need a new ad system to get revenue to pay for costs and REPLACEMENT cost, or you need to be more selective in who you let get CG hosting to limit bandwidth and server processing comsumption?

but, whatever. This will be the last I'll say about it without it being brought up by someone else.
