I'm having the same problem, but it seems to be affecting my main page...as well as various other pages...I just spent an hour rechecking my code cause I thought I was wrong someplace :lol:
My page is:
The PKF

good to know I'm not a complete HTML ****up!

Anyhow, It tells me <!-- Duplicate or miss-placed ad removed -->...is there a new code or something that got implemented?

I'm also having a problem with my Directory images not showing up on some of my pages (only the ones that are secondary, as well as my archives). I've double and triple checked my code now, is it unrelated, or a failsafe to keep people from having too many folders or something?

If its unrelated I'll make another help topic or something to keep this one on topic.

I'm having the exact same problem - oddly, this only happens with some pages. For example, two out of three of my character pages, which are completely identical except for the date created and the content, which contains one image and a little text with no keentags. My index and daily pages are fine.
(http://badlydubbed.comicgen.com)
This is, incidentally, incredibly irritating, as my browser has a glitch that cannot cope with any commented-out text, so I am unable to view the pages in question.

Oh good, glad to see it's not just me. Well, I'm really new to this... and I thought I screwed something up. My indextemplate and dailytemplate are fine, but the additional pages are the problem. First I made the Archive page, which had the advertisement like it's supposed to. So I just copied that code, and made several other pages which look exactly the same, except the ad isn't coming up. And I looked at the source code, and it does say:

<center><!-- Duplicate or miss-placed ad removed --></center>

... just like everyone else's seems to. ( http://fishbones.comicgenesis.com ) I think it might be some kind of bug or some lagging issue or something... But hopefully it will be fixed soon, cuz I don't want to be kicked off, cuz I just got my account approved a couple of days ago... =[ If anyone knows how to fix it or something, please let me know! =D

Same here.
You're just jealous because you can't get away with speaking in the third person...

I'm just bumping this to see if anyone has an answer to this problem...my pages still lack the ad, even though I've updated the front one since this started. Is it just me or is the thing still borked?

...Is 'bump' used at this board? Feh, guess I'll find out.

When I had the ***advertisement*** tag in it got replaced by html code that said it was automatically removed. I figured they were saying non conent pages were those without comics *shrug*

Guess I might as well post here, since I'm in the same boat as everyone else. :)

I'm taking the ***advertisement*** tag off all my non-comic pages - it's messing up my browser and layout having the commented-out warning and no ads. Sorry if you're not supposed to do that - tell me and I'll put 'em back.

Yeah I don't think you're supposed to do that. I'd keep them there just in case. You don't want to have your account deleted... They should fix the ad problem soon, it's been happening for a while already, they should do something about it.

The trouble is that my site won't work if I leave them there - removing the tag solves the problem. I still have them on my daily and index pages.

Yeah, I'm likewise having issues with the inconsistancy of the ads (though, at the moment, I'm not sure any are working at all, even though the tags are definitely in place). This could be due to other issues with my site, but I've been over the html pretty thoroughly, and I don't see anything wrong. One never knows though, and I'm hardly great at this whole html dealio, anyway...

But it's very good to know that I'm not the only one having this problem. Thanks, everybody.

Me too.

I guess I'm just adding myself to the list of people that this has been happening to. The ads on every page except my index one have not been showing up, and I have also been getting the "<!-- Duplicate or miss-placed ad removed -->" message.
Should I continue to post on this thread, or should I start a new one? I mean, I don't want to clutter up the forum with complaints about the same problem, but some places tell people to always start a new thread, so they can see how bad it is.
So, in case it helps, here's the html surrounding the advertisement tags on my pages:

Archive Page:

</style>
</head>

<body>

<p>***advertisement***
<br>
<table border=0 align="center" width="90%">
<tr>
<td>

<div class="content">

I edited my pages in microsoft word (yes, I'm an html noob, please don't flame me, I really am trying to learn), and the program seems to have added some stuff in there. Could that be the source of the problem?
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this. :D

To Evilplan:

I don't think it's any of your fault, or the way your html is written that the ads aren't displaying. And even if you are using a program to write it, means there's less chance of you making a mistake. I hand write all of my html, and the ads aren't showing up for me either. It shows up on the dailytemplate pages, and indextemplate page, and on my archive page. Every other page has that piece of annoying code....

Thank you. You have no idea how relieved this makes me. Now I can concentrate on the actual comic, instead of worrying about the site. :D

Odd... this same thing happened to me last week as I was testing my new template files. My current "Index" page was displaying ads for a while (when I uploaded manually through FTP), but then I did an "Index Update" through my browser admin tool and the ad was removed and replaced with "Duplicate Ad... etc." that everyone here is reporting. I thought maybe it was my fault since I was only just then learning how the templates work!

I just submitted a "Full Update," soo... 401 updates-in-queue later I'll report back if this comes up again anywhere.
What if nobody ever asked "what if?"

Yup, happened again. Oddly enough it's only affecting my Index page. Dailytemplate seems to have worked correctly and it uses the same code as below (well, not quite. I recently added in the code to center the ad). Using ***advertisement*** here.

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1"?>

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0
Transitional//EN"

"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

<html lang="en" xml:lang="en"
xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<head>
<title>Phoenix Incarnate: Day 04</title>

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
charset=iso-8859-1" />

</head>
<div class="keen_ad" style="display:inline;">
<!-- Duplicate or miss-placed ad removed  -->
</div>
<div class="main">
I just issued another full-page update, so maybe that will clear it. Either way, take this as feedback.

Also I've noticed that I only get J-list ads. I know that there's an alternate set of ads that runs for mature comics, but it seems odd that I'm showing ads for just one company.[/code]

Please don't run full updates. Especially not repeatedly. Full updates are very server intensive and are only useful in a few select situations.

I'm having a slightly different problem. Instead of taking the ad down, it puts another one up. There's one ad at the top that's hard-coded in, and when I try to remove it and replace it with the ***advertisement*** tag it gets rid of not only the second ad, but also the comic image. If I leave the ad in the coding without the tag, everything else works fine but it still shows a second ad right above the comic. Any ideas as to why it does this? It's only affecting the index page.
