okay... I got IE7 to work. Really weird...
I deleted cookies again, passwords, and forms after hitting 'cancel.' And i was logged out of the forums. That STILL didn't work, something was still remembering me incorrectly. So I deleted my browsing history, temporary files, the whole she-bang... including cookies, forms, passwords again... and then it worked.

Most excellent.
I have encountered a new problem, which is probably quite unrelated to the current problems and most likely at my end, but I thought I would share.
I use Dreamweaver 4 to ftp to various sites, including my two comics plus the comics of three other people on CG whom I help manage their comics. I can log into all but one of the sites without any problems at all. In, out. Easy.
However, when I try to log into my original CG comic (twaip) it won't do it. No error messages, no strange things, no timeouts. It just seems to connect, then disconnect.
However, the bizarre thing is that once that has happened, I can't get in to any other sites either. They then all start doing the same thing. If I shut down the program and try again, the problem persists. However, a re-boot clears the problem and then everything (except twaip) works flawlessly.
I don't expect anyone here to fix it as the problem is too vague and too different to other problems to be at CG's end, but I thought I should mention it in case someone else experienced similar problems. If I figure out what's going on or it clears up, I'll share.

That sounds like a firewall rule gone nuts.Dr Neo Lao wrote:Most excellent. :D

My comic is still not auto-updating, and I really don't know why (I'm no code monkey). On the Comic Data page, I've got auto-update enabled and the comic is scheduled to update Today at 3 AM PST (4 AM my time). It is now almost three hours later and this is what the .xml file says:

I have had to trigger a daily manual regular update ever since the server migration. I don't understand why this isn't working. As far as I can tell with my nonexistent code skills, I've done everything I'm supposed to do and yet it still won't autoupdate. Please help!<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>

Here is the shoddy formula, please follow along:
UTC/GMT Zulu Time Sat Aug 11 2007 1:02:14 GMT
Local Time Fri Aug 10 18:02:14 2007
Local Timezone To UTC/GMT Time -7 hours
k got that?
Now Autokeen runs in something called PST offset of which the following table applies, where bhour is the current PST hour of the server, NOWOFFSET is TODAYS comic, and TNOW is TOMORROWS comic:
Code: Select all
if($bhour == 0){$NOWOFFSET=0;$TNOWOFFSET=-24;}
if($bhour == 1){$NOWOFFSET=23;$TNOWOFFSET=-1;}
if($bhour == 2){$NOWOFFSET=22;$TNOWOFFSET=-2;}
if($bhour == 3){$NOWOFFSET=21;$TNOWOFFSET=-3;}
if($bhour == 4){$NOWOFFSET=20;$TNOWOFFSET=-4;}
if($bhour == 5){$NOWOFFSET=19;$TNOWOFFSET=-5;}
if($bhour == 6){$NOWOFFSET=18;$TNOWOFFSET=-6;}
if($bhour == 7){$NOWOFFSET=17;$TNOWOFFSET=-7;}
if($bhour == 8){$NOWOFFSET=16;$TNOWOFFSET=-8;}
if($bhour == 9){$NOWOFFSET=15;$TNOWOFFSET=-9;}
if($bhour == 10){$NOWOFFSET=14;$TNOWOFFSET=-10;}
if($bhour == 11){$NOWOFFSET=13;$TNOWOFFSET=-11;}
if($bhour == 12){$NOWOFFSET=12;$TNOWOFFSET=-12;}
if($bhour == 13){$NOWOFFSET=11;$TNOWOFFSET=-13;}
if($bhour == 14){$NOWOFFSET=10;$TNOWOFFSET=-14;}
if($bhour == 15){$NOWOFFSET=9;$TNOWOFFSET=-15;}
if($bhour == 16){$NOWOFFSET=8;$TNOWOFFSET=-16;}
if($bhour == 17){$NOWOFFSET=7;$TNOWOFFSET=-17;}
if($bhour == 18){$NOWOFFSET=6;$TNOWOFFSET=-18;}
if($bhour == 19){$NOWOFFSET=5;$TNOWOFFSET=-19;}
if($bhour == 20){$NOWOFFSET=4;$TNOWOFFSET=-20;}
if($bhour == 21){$NOWOFFSET=3;$TNOWOFFSET=-21;}
if($bhour == 22){$NOWOFFSET=2;$TNOWOFFSET=-22;}
if($bhour == 23){$NOWOFFSET=1;$TNOWOFFSET=-23;}
I think I may have found the problem, I think I had the GMT offset set to +8 instead of -7 according to the UTC calculator. So we'll try that and see if things update properly. Please keep an eye on your rss.xml files to see if it's updating at the correct hour. Please DO NOT MANUALLY UPDATE untill you've either missed by 2 hours or you have some other critical reason.
People running contests like lazy grind should have their update time set at least an hour before they should normally update.

Ive been trying for the last hour to get into my account, thinking it was my fault at first. I finally resorted to clearing out all my caches and such and then followed the directions to the letter and it does not work... can someone lend me a hand.. maybe my passwords are different somehow?
I would like to update this by saying that i have tried to change my password, but the one i use to log into the forums that works says that it is not the one on record... I am starting to get very frustrated...
Edit number three:
Thanks for whoever got things fixed, it works fine now ^^

This is odd. A few weeks ago, my co-author told me he couldn't log into the siteadmin or the forums. Tried everything, deleting cookies et al, checking and rechecking passwords and case, nothing. It was like his forum account had been deleted. Well, when I went to log in last night to run an update, I couldn't get in either. I was using a saved password form, so nothing could have changed on my end. Tried the 'forgot password' link, and it said my username or email was invalid.
So here's a question: are you guys by any chance deleting forum accounts that don't post in x period of time? Because neither of us ever posted, to my knowledge. Many forums clean up abandoned accounts regularly, but when your siteadmin is tied to your forum account, it's a bit daft.
This is a new account I made when login failed. The troublesome user names are 'The Virus' and 'Lothar Hex'.
Thanks,
-Virus, Exterminatus Now

It unwittingly does, for some strange reason, for anyone who doesn't post. You will have this one stick now. As a work around, check out Quickadmin.The Virus AJG wrote:So here's a question: are you guys by any chance deleting forum accounts that don't post in x period of time? Are the comics time traveling again? mine is showing in the calender archiver that it has the update for the 10th ( not showing today's update even though I manually updated that this morning) but when you click on the 10th on the calender it brings up the 8th instead.
Just wondering if this is happening to others as well.

The whole site's down again.
Too bad. I've been getting mad traffic from an interview I did at : http://www.thescientist.com
Good thing it wasn't down last Friday afternoon (Lab Bratz got >12000 page views) when the interview first went up.
Estimated time to fix?
