Auto Update...today's comic? tomorrow's comic? Confusing!

Post by Reactor »

I've finally gotten to the point where I'm trying to upload comics in advance of their viewing date. But I cannot figure out how Auto Update distinguishes between Today's Comic and Tomorrow's Comic.

I want my comic to update every Sunday, at midnight Eastern Standard Time. Meaning midnight when Saturday turns to Sunday, not when Sunday turns to Monday.

What is the proper setting for that?

Also, since I've previously just been drawing and posting and manually updating immediately, I've been uploading comics to Public-HTML-Comics, and that has worked with a manual update. But now, I understand that if I'm uploading the comics in advance of their viewing date, and AUTO-updating them, I should upload them to Workspace-Comics. Is that correct?

Thanks for any help.

Tomorrow's comic 9pm PST

And you always want to put your new comics in your workspace/comic folder. Messing around with your public_html files can occasionally cause problems.

Okay, this is weird. I had posted the 10-30 strip in Public-html-comics and it didn't update. Then it did update. But then I decided to do a revision and deleted the old version from Public-html-comics and uploaded the new version. This is something I do all the time as I spot little flaws in the strip. It always works, updates immediately without doing an update.

But now it's not working. And now the 10-30 strip isn't showing at all, even though I did two manual updates and the 10-30 file is showing in the D folder and the Comics folder. And it's already 10-30.

Earlier today I changed to Auto Update, but then changed back to Manual until I found out exactly how to deal with the Today's Comic/Tomorrow's Comic issue. That's the only thing I can think of that might be confounding Autokeen.

Thanks, Pillywiggin. Now I hope I can get out of this new problem.

I HAVE been adding all my comics all along to Public-html-comics, not workspace, then full manual updating, because I thought that was the right way to do it. Haven't had a problem until now.

Should I move all my comics out of Public to Workspace? Most are already past dated.

Well I just deleted luna.20051030.png from Public-html-comics, and deleted its corresponding file from the D folder. Then I uploaded the comic to Workspace-Comics and changed my SiteAdmin to Auto update at the time you specified, Pillywiggin.

It's still displaying the 10-23 comic, even though it's well into 10-30. I hope it eventually will update!

If you made a change and want to trigger an update, do a manual update. You can see that option in the Siteadmin after you log in (Manually Update Comic). Just pick a regular update and hit submit.

Thanks Phalanx! I was doing a FULL page update, not a REGULAR update. Your suggestion solved the problem. Now 10-30 is displaying :D
