Help! Updating indextemplate.

Post by Samuraibastard »

I have editied my indextemplate and daily templates to my desired liking, which aplies to all of Keenspace requirements ie.Tags etc.

I have uploaded them to my FTTP client and manually updated thru siteadmin but no changes have taken place since my previous update which might have been dump luck.

am i missing a step?

Give us a link to your comic?

The general steps (paraphrased from the guide)

1) Download a copy of indextemplate.html

2) keep an unblemished copy. Edit another copy of the file so that it looks the way you want it to.

3) Upload the indextemplate.html file to your workspace directory.

4) Run a manual update.

I would say to just clear your cache and refresh the page, but I know that

Mine has not been updating either, I'm afraid. =( One of my most recent two comics has already been moved into the public_html by Autokeen, but it still does not show on the main page, and my Christmas comic never did. They're all jpg files.

This looks similar to the problem I have been having.

Is this because our code is faulty, or is there some other issue going on?

I think you may be putting in your code wrong.....that was a problem I was having for some time..... when you go to upload your "new" page make sure you overwrite it.... and mkae sure your "jpg" is the same as what you uploaded... (i.e. jpg as opposed to JPG and vice versa...)

No, I didn't use ***include*** tags in mine.

I checked the file extensions and other such things before posting here, and they seem fine. I also uploaded them to the right folder, and one has already been processed by Autokeen - but the page itself hasn't updated.

This is the important part of my code, however, I hope it can help somewhat:

Code: Select all

<html lang="en" xml:lang="en"
xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head><title>***comic_name*** - ***todays_date***</title>
...
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0
Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<div class="keen_ad" style="display:inline;" align="center">
***advertisement***
</div>
<div class="main">
<h3>by ***author***</h3>
***todays_comics***
<br />
***first_day*** ***previous_day*** ***next_day*** ***last_day***
<br />

Oh! I almost forgot, my most recent uploads (but that have not shown up) were on Christmas Day, the 31st of January and the next is due on the 4th of February.
(Just getting back into gear after the holidays).

<<insert urk here>> nnnope, just the images are "processed". No webpages have been made for anything inside 2005.

I also tried to change the navigation for the frames version, but that didn't work, either. I was thinking of using tables instead anyway, but...

Are you sure the files are called indextemplate.html and dailytemplate.html

Only one person in keepspace history has ever managed to screw up autokeen in a way that I couldn't figure out what happened, that being Van Douchebag/White Hydra . Don't ask me how, but all I wound up doing that time was deleting the account and restoring the comics back to it. Solved the problem. When I think about that account, I had to ask "what does a new site do, that a broken site might not?" It always comes down to the templates. Van somehow managed to break autokeen so it wouldn't even tell me what it was doing.

Nobody else has managed to do something that required deleting the site entirely.

Don't forget though, that Van's old site was an old one that previously belonged to someone else, so there's another unknown factor there.

Hmm, actually, it might be that I uploaded a page called "index" instead... for some reason, I have one in the exact same folder of my harddrive as the indextemplate. o_O I have both an index and an indextemplate... I'm reuploading the latter to see if that fixes it.
Gee, if it does, I'm going to go off into a corner and whip myself for overlooking such a thing...

..and for some reason all my dailytemplates are just the base code? o_O I've only uploaded that twice, maybe thrice, and all three of those times my pages had the same color scheme as the indextemplate. Urgh.

Oh, and this is pretty. I have no banners listed on my banner list anymore, and when I try to give it the URL, it tells me there is no image there. It's on the FTP, though.

Okay, I've checked and double-checked, and no cigar for anything. The page is the same. I'm going to try reuploading a fixed version of the dailytemplate and reupload the latest three comics... *crosses fingers as she tells Autokeen to update again*

... still no cigar. The images are in the "comics" folder under public_html, though I updated them into workspace, but there is nothing under "d". I've no idea what's wrong. I'm considering deleting the old images and trying to update again. I'll post later to tell you guys if it worked.

Hrrm. The Dailytemplate.html updated all but one page in November, and my <center> tags aren't working, but oh well.

The main page is still splut (IE: still on my latest December update), but at least the navigation seemed to update when I refreshed it..
