Re: Long-lost idiot here, lost a comic

davidfuller wrote:Hey, guys. I have been gone for ages, and I have not updated my comic.

I meet all the criteria for a purge. I understand why I have been purged, and I am not upset with you.

I am upset with me.

I kept meaning to get copies of all of my comics, which I had previously been unable to store on my computer. My comic strip was Vicious Lies, and I was previously registered as Somebody Strange. I cannot remember my Somebody Strange password, and I no longer have that e-mail address. I remember my FTP password, but that's about it (and I temporarily am without FTP availability).

My question is, is there any way for me to have Vicious Lies "un-purged" at least temporarily so that I may gather my comics for my own memories? Or can I access the comics through FTP?

Or did I just screw up by not being around for two-plus years?

Any help would be vastly appreciated,

David Fuller

Your site still exists, dude. I was just there.

Hi,

my comic doesn't work anymore, but I can still log into the account on keenspace so I'm assuming it wasn't deleted in the purge...but in case it was I'm posting here.

What I originally thought was that it was because I stopped paying for my domain name and farmboy is still registered under farmboy.com.

If you could look into the problem that'd be greatness.

Some weird things happened and I would like to start over

Post by Consequence001 »

Well, like my title says, some weird things happened and I would like to start over. I am not sure what what was caused by the system purge or what was caused by me, but I would like to start over again with the comic process. I still have a working on-line comic, but how do I erase the comic's file from the Keenspace records so that I can start all over again?

Thanks!

if it was deleted... why don't you sign up for bloodslave.keenspace.com again?
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

It'd appear that 1/0 vanished...

... or maybe the guy just moved his site, he has a mirror of it on another host.

... meh, his site meets one of the conditions for deletion at least [the last comic was in August 2003] - and maybe he had the actual comics on another host at the end and thusly had less than 150k or whatever uploaded.

Shame I guess.

EDIT: Just a little note for the slow, I somehow managed to enter this topic without fully reading the title, I am not in fact Mason Williams.

I have had ideas for comics before, but they either turned out to be crap before I drew them or turned out to be pretty crap sprite comics. I guess that I'll run ideas round in my head until I have an idea that's interesting enough for me to have 100 comics' worth of ideas. Then I'll do that.

I'm not a keenspace user, but a reader of a page that has dissapeared and I'm guessing that this is why. The maker of Tommy the Post Nuclear Cat http://postnuclearcat.keenspace.com/ died earlier this year although up untill fairly recently his archive was still hosted here.

I was wondering if anybody knows of any mirror sites or other details that might be helpful to me in tracking down the comic if there is no plans for restoring it here.

Thanks.

Out of curiosity, will there be another purge this year? (I hope to have my webcomic up before the end of the month; so I'm just checking.)

Removing my Keenspace site

Post by Sand&Stone »

Hi guys. I have a unique conundrum here. . . Is there any way I could actually get Keenspace to go ahead and purge my site?

Yes, I know this section is usually for people who don't want their site purged in the first place, but. . .

I had a small Keenspace site years ago (http://misfits.keenspace.com), but it was so long and forgotten about that I didn't think about it until it start showing up in searches for me. And it kinda makes me cringe now, and was last updated years ago, so if there's anyway to remove it, that would be great.

I tried going to the Keenspace login site to see if there was any way I could remove it myself, but the problem is that I'd forgotten my long-ago password. I tried retrieving it, but I have no idea where the retrieval is being sent to, because I don't know which (heaven knows) old e-mail address I'd given it when I first started.

(Apparently it's not the octobersky e-mail address that's listed on the site, because I went through the trouble of reactivating that old address but nothing's come through to it.)

So, basically, I can't log in because I don't have the password, and I don't have the password because whatever e-mail address is in Keenspace's records is likely extinct by now.

Proof that the site is mine should hopefully be apparent through its links to my tentative.net comic sites, as well as the resemblance of the old, crude drawing style to my current one. And I can hopefully be vouched for as well by people like Ping/Phalanx. If you need further proof or documentation, please let me know.

So if there's any way anybody can help, either by getting rid of that site or telling me how to do it myself (while bypassing that awful e-mail complication), that would be great. Sorry for all this crazyness!

Thanks,

Lynn

Well, either it poofed or there is an error on it/my computer which I'm not unlikely. My site was http://ddraw114.keenspace.com but right now all I get hen I go onto it is the standard "This Page Cannot be Displayed" page like thing. If it did go poof can it please be restored so I could fix the issues that forced you to make it poof and so on and so forth.

I've been trying to upload my comic for almost eight months. I have sent e-mail after e-mail asking for help, as I have no experience at all with ftp. None. I was completely unaware on how to modify my page, or how to actually upload my comic.

My little sliver of Keenspace has been deleted. I've finally gotten some help, not from any source from Keenspace, there's been no help there, to be honest, but from a tech geek who has nothing to do with webcomics whatsoever.

The site was http://gogree.keenspace.com. Thanks alot, Keenspace. Really, you've been a big help.

Well, there are ftp and page editing newbie-friendly guides in the Gear. If your questions could be answered there, it's likely the site moderators/owners didn't take the time to assist with your particular problem. There is enough stuff that can be handled only by the mods to keep them busy.

Look at the Gear section and check with other users here when you run into a specific problem and things should be ok.

email???!? Who did you email to?

Questions for help should be posted in the forum. I try my best to answer all enquires, but I don't recall any from you. Granted I do tend to go through a lot of questions so maybe I missed one.

Only the forums and Livejournal are actively read. e-mail to any address at keenspot.com or keenspace.com is just deleted due to spam issues.

Well not quite like I just said.

IF...

you were to email help@ with this in the subject : [Keenspace: username] Help, I broke my site

The important part being the square brackets, I might see it, as it winds up in my help folder instead of the trash.

Wasn't the purge originally going to be for if your site didn't update for 3 months?
Because I was waiting for my site to be purged and it wasn't.

Okay, it was killed by spam issues.

How would I get about getting my site back alive?

Posting here for 2 reasons.
I can not longer see any of the images on any keenspace comic how ever I can see keenspot comics.
I think it might be my firewalls but I could be wrong.

Any way the second reason is you can turn off hotlinking on the server. I know with my server I can do that but I do not as I like to use my server to host avatars.

hopedread got eaten, too, but...

...considering I set it up 2 years ago without doing much of anything that's hardly surprising.

In any case I'm ready to start putting work up on the site and I can't seem to re-register.

What do you need from me?
