OK...Logs are working again. But I need an assurance here. What is the difference between a "hit" and a "Visit". I seem to have had 412 "hits" and 23 "visits". apart from the number, what is the difference?
Alex

okay, here's as near as i can figure.
completely ignore the hits thing. it sucks. don't worry about it.
a site is what it counts every time someone goes to anything on your site. that means .jpgs and .gifs 'n stuff too, but i'm pretty sure it counts all of them requested within a certain ammount of time as the same one. you have to be careful, though, because that means stuff like when you put an image on a forum. that's also tricky in the refferals, but you didn't ask about that so i won't get into it.
A visit is when someone goes to a page on your site. that means .html and .htm and all that stuff instead of just pictures. i like them more, but sometimes multiple people come from the same ip or something like that. i forget the reason, but somehow that isn't all that accurate either.
then there's pages. those are the infamous pageviews that everyone's always talking about. that's how most people gauge the popularity of their websites, so remember those.
i think that's how it goes. i haven't looked at my logs in months on account of them being so depressing, so i probably got those mixed up or something. whatever.
Would you like to know more?
------------------
