I've already posted something regarding the promotional materials not being approved or even disapproved.
Since Kisai seems to be a little more active recently, I'm just trying to call attention to this issue if it can be fixed. And it seems that it's even more broken now or something as I tried uploading images to that page again and it won't even upload at all.

Re: Please fix the Promo/Banner/Newsbox/Pog/Chan images
There's a certain amount of repair work in order to get the genchan's to work as intended. Most (or should I say, all) the code I wrote for the Guide was early 2005 and was over-engineered to not break, even with system upgrades, and after the CG front page redesign, has had to remain exactly the same to make sure that the page works as intended. This is why I haven't been approving genchan's because I'd need to write a new tool for anyone other than myself, Kelly or Mo to actually approve them. I believe McDuffies also has access.
As for deletions, I only delete clear mistakes and duplicates.
There's some very important criteria, some of this can be waived since browsers aren't as broken as they were in 2005.
GenChan*:
- Must respect background/border alignment. Waived if the background is alpha-blended transparent (PNG only)
- Only right-side cropping allowed
- Must be representative of "genchan" not your comic.
- Must look presentable/professional, if you wouldn't put it on a business card, don't upload it.
*At this point, unless you have something you REALLY REALLY want to see on the current front page, I probably will not approve any pending any redesign.
Newsbox:
- No porn, as the newsbox can appear on anyones site. There are internal scripts to prevent PG rated comics boxes from appearing on G rated comics, but you can't rely on users actually filling this out correctly.
- No gore or blood
- Should look reasonably the same quality as the comic, however should not "troll" the reader by promising boobs and delivering stick figures.
- The background should NOT be transparent since it may appear on comics with conflicting colors.
Pogs:
- Should be presentable, there is more leeway if the art style is the same as the comic, but please don't troll the reader here either.
- single color transparency (not alpha blended) only. Please make sure that it's actually transparant after being optimized, as tools like irfanview using PNGOUT will erase the transparency
- Must be the right size (pixel-wise)
According to the approve list. I've been the only one approving anything since 2010.
General rules:
- NO BLANK IMAGES.

You need to be more specific, is there an error message, or just blank pages or what?Lazylonewolf wrote:I've already posted something regarding the promotional materials not being approved or even disapproved.

Error messages, though it only shows up when submitting.
Thanks for the approves as I've been waiting eight months for that. Glad that other people's comics started showing up too.
I want to help with approving if possible, unless there's some coding involved. At least McDuffies should get the permissions for that, seeing as you guys are shorthanded as it is.

There's no coding involved, it's just one giant list that back in 2005 would crash the web browser because it would get stupidly huge.Lazylonewolf wrote:Error messages, though it only shows up when submitting.

Here, I'll take a screenshot. Keep in mind that stuff that isn't approved is because I either have not checked it or stylistically it doesn't seem to fit.
The pogs are hard to UNDO once approved. The banners, buttons, avatars(this is actually not really used anywhere other than to provide a hotlinkable target) can generally be approved unless they look inappropriate.
The GTC crew used to do stronger evaluations for the chans, like actually telling people why it was rejected. For the most part I just don't approve anything that I can't eye-ball as fitting. With the pogs, it's hard to tell if they work because a black or white edge larger than the template usually makes it not fit with the front page. Like I said, it's hard to undo anything approved, basically there are three scripts
Approve
UnApprove
and Delete
Approve moves files from unapproved to approved, Unapprove moves them from approved back to unapproved. Delete deletes things in one shot, and typically doesn't work if the user has uploaded two pogs with the same filename, as it will only delete the first database entry and not the second one. That's why we say to upload with a different filename.
But I don't want to assign anyone to GTC unless they're planning on sticking around, because people do that. They volunteer for something and then vanish.

Hrm looks easy enough, time consuming though. I plan to stay with ComicGenesis for a while as I really like using AutoGenesis especially if the service improves. Let me know if I can still help.
