Multiple Pogs?

Post by Grimm »

I did a forum search and didn't see anything on the topic although the Pog tutorial implies that the answer is no, BUT:

Is it possible to have multiple pogs for the same comic? I'm not trying to get more links on the front (not that I wouldn't mind, but that's not The Plan) but I've got several characters in my cast and I'd like to have a pog for each one... so like if my comic came up in the rotation could it randomly grab one of my pogs rather than have just one? The tutorial implies you can only have one but I figure it never hurts to ask, and you don't get features you don't ask for ;)

Also, it seemed during my reading that the pogs system in general is semi-buggy (I've never noticed it myself) - I'm a more than competent DB programmer and I'd be happy to assist in working on that. I've got an idea that would possibly streamline approvals and also allow some flexibility as far as having multiples with a minimal amount of processor time.

Thanks all :) Love the site :)

I'm not sure the exact details of the programming, but you are correct in your initial assumption - comic accounts are only allowed one Pog per account.

Presumably, if the code was re-done I see no reason why comics couldn't have different Pogs which could be rotated around or have the authors given more control so that they can add and remove their own Pogs without having to wait for approval from the Pog & Chan committee.

The main reason for single-Pogs is that the current system keeps all the Pogs (from all comics) in a single place and the program picks 12 Pogs (or however many there are on the front page) at random and puts them on the front. If a comic account has more than one Pog in the system then there is no way to ensure that only one of those would be displayed.

In order to do what you want, the entire Pog-display module would have to be re-written. This is not necessarily a bad thing, so if you are willing to help, drop a message to Kisai or STrRedWolf (or both) and let them know that you want to help. They are both kind of swamped keeping CG running and haven't been able to sit back and update things that need overhauling in a while.
