That's the number of comics waiting in line to be updated. A number I've only seen get bigger these last few days. Meaning, as I understand it, that the server is so down it can't process anything. As soon as it is up and running again, it will start working through the update requests waiting, and the number will gradually get smaller. Comics will update, one at a time. Though in the meantime, as it's not working, the number will only grow as more comics get in line to get their page updated.So....And I ask this only because I'm technologically inept...Since the count on the upload site is up to 6900, all it's gonna take now is some time for uploads to finish, and everything should be back to normal?

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.RobertBlake wrote:They should. They'll be in the archives if they do. You shouldn't have to load anything manually. Once we get over this little snag, AutoKeen should update everything you've uploaded like normal.MoonFreight3 wrote:And all the stuff that was supposed to go up during the outage but didn't will also go up? They'll be in the archives? I won't have to load those manually? Not just the stuff that's been on the site since the beginning?
Not a problem. The first time it happened to me way back in the day I had many of the same worries.Sorry if I keep repeating things, but I've never had to deal with a situation like this before, and I want to be thorough and make sure I have as much information as possible for when things get back to normal.

Just a quick question, but can someone please explain to me the point of the upload queue? I'm sure it has its reasons, but the fact that it's what's holding our sites back is what frustrates me.

The queue shows you a number. That number represents your place on the comic update list. If you click on one of the updating options, you are moved to the back of the line causing your queue number to increase thus taking you longer to update your comic. Sometimes the queue number is zero - obviously that means that there are no comics being updated at that moment, so if you want you may trigger an update to your comic without worrying about being on a long waiting line because you'll be the only one. Unless of course someone else triggered an update, then that person would be in the waiting line with you and so on and so forth.Picpak wrote:Just a quick question, but can someone please explain to me the point of the upload queue? All those ***tags in your indextemplate need to be translated into the more complicated html. Everyone's site needs this translation every time they want to update. And unfortunately, the server can't just do that translation instantaneously. It needs a little time to process it. So when there are 500 comics that all want to update at midnight, it's just not possible to have them all update at once. Thus a queue is generated, and you get to wait your turn.Picpak wrote:Just a quick question, but can someone please explain to me the point of the upload queue? Now I'm wondering how Blogspot manages to update on-the-fly with its tags...is that just one of Google's secrets?

My guess would be that Google is a way larger company that can afford more and bigger machines.Picpak wrote:Now I'm wondering how Blogspot manages to update on-the-fly with its tags...is that just one of Google's secrets?

The queue number seems to be going down, although very slowly.

Mine updated as well.
Re: general or partial CG server outage? WANTED: server status
Hooray! Updates for all! I even updated twice! (I found and fixed a problem. I feel positively greedy, updating twice like that.)
And now my comic finally has its comment box! Hallelujah and muahaha!
