Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
I feel I should just throw my name into the pool of people with this problem. My sitename is Ozydius, and my E-Mail is Yahoo. Registration date is, I believe...December 3rd, 2008.
Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
For what it's worth -
I'm a yahoo user but, no trouble getting the initial registration/sign up email, or in getting forum emails. I'm not sure if that helps but as an FYI...
STRedWolf, what's your recommendation on that - should I re-apply and use my Gmail account? And, is there any change on the FTP password change situation?

The 'other' guys
And Dr. Neo Lao, question for you...
You mentioned looking at Webcomics Nation. Do you have a link to their TOS? One concern I had, as I was signing up for WCN, was that I didn't see a TOS anywhere and I'd like to just make sure about how they handle the cartoonist's copyrights and ownership of their work.
It actually looks pretty good, otherwise.... though honestly my preference is CG, as I've heard a lot of good things about it via word of mouth.

Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
WCN is kinda weird - both really professional and really amateur at the same time.
There is no TOS listed anywhere on their site. The best I could find was the tech support forum, though I'm sure it'll appear elsewhere, somewhere.

As far as I am concerned, that won't help. However, if you have an email that you use all the time and plan on using for a long time then that is the recommended email to use. If at some stage, let's say three years from now, you need to re-set your password then that email will be sent to the email that you registered with. And emails can't be changed after registration.DrakeGrey wrote:...should I re-apply and use my Gmail account?
Is your account up? You should be able to see the sample comic you submitted (or all black, if you use IE).Ozydius wrote:Registration date is, I believe...December 3rd, 2008.

Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
Thanks again for keeping up with our questions. I don't doubt this is as frustrating for you guys as it is for us, though probably even more so with the hundreds of folks waiting anxiously to get going.
This is more a suggestion to those still waiting, but what about posting on a site like DeviantArt? It's obviously not an ideal solution, but it's at least an opportunity to drum up some interest and get feedback while you wait for an actual site. I've been posting my comic on my DA page, and while I'm cheating a bit by already having a "fanbase", I've already attracted some new folks and gotten some good responses on what works and what to focus on improving as I progress.
While I prefer and certainly look forward to using CG's templates and coding, it's good to know I've had a couple hundred folks giving it a look over in the meantime. Never hurts to have your work in more than one place, anyway.

Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
Correct. That's the current problem, the system that is supposed to be sending out the FTP passwords is not doing so. Hopefully, it'll be fixed soon.Smug wrote:Still haven't got my password... please help?
Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
I was just wondering if, since we can't update anything yet, our comic accounts will get automatically deleted after no updates within the set time limit?

I know it hasn't been fixed yet, but do we know what the problem is yet?

Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
@Trelk: In theory, yes and in theory, no. Comics that have less than three updates in them get deleted every so often. However, the script that does this is not an automatic one, it is normally triggered manually (usually once a year or so). Since the admins are aware of the current plethora of new members unable to update, it would seem silly to me to run that script. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say "no, your comic account won't be deleted" and hope like hell I don't invoke Murphy.
@Necrospawn0: I know what the symptom is, not 100% sure if STrRedWolf knows what the problem causing it is. The symptom is that the email with the confirmation code is not being sent out by the FTP password changer. Lamentably, members need to enter the activation code from that email in order to get an FTP password working.

Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
Speaking of which, something that's always stroked my curiosity...I have a Keenspace/CG site that I created in 2001 and stopped updating in 2003 (there aren't even any comics on it, as I deleted them). How is it that it's still active?Dr Neo Lao wrote:@Trelk: In theory, yes and in theory, no. Comics that have less than three updates in them get deleted every so often. Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
That's odd. If you the public_html/d and public_html/comics folders are both empty, then the account should have been deleted a long time ago.
The only thing I can think of is if only the comics were deleted but not the html pages and the option to auto-update was turned off. Unless there is some other factor that I am unaware of...

Well, seems that it's not just me having this problem... I take it there is no ETA on when this will be fixed?

Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
At the moment, no...
Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
I just saw this:
Does this mean my username "derhundt" won't work on the FTP because I didn't use a CAPITAL?
Dude! They should warn us!
And I don't have pm, so I couldn't send anything to Kisai or STrRedWolf...
Is there something I'm missing?
This is very frustrating, as I do have a backlog of my comics in my computer files and I'd like to share them with the world soon.
Is there any chance this problem will get resolved in the near future?
I really hope so.
Anyway, any tips y'all can give me would be nice.
Thanks in advance,
derhundt
I must be in danger then; I didn't get the FTP confirmation either...I, just above wrote:
@ comiccracker - This saga has been going on for way too long. Thank you for bearing with us. A new problem has come up that I was not aware of that will affect you. User accounts that start with a lower case are unable to access SiteAdmin. You will need to either create a new forum account (your comic account is not affected) where the first letter is a capital (you might also need a new email account to use) or drop a pm to either Kisai or STrRedWolf and ask them to change your username. Note that you will not be able to create an account like ComicCracker, but you can do something like Comic_cracker or Comiccracker2.

Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
Yes and True. There was a system in place before that automatically made the first letter a capital but I don't know why it stopped working.derhundt wrote:Does this mean my username "derhundt" won't work on the FTP because I didn't use a CAPITAL?

When I say "pm" I mean "private message" which can be done with the forum. The link to the pm section is at the top left next to "User Control Panel".
Hopefully yes, but I can't give a more accurate time frame other than "soon".Is there any chance this problem will get resolved in the near future?
Comic Genesis gives lots of flexibility to the user as to how their comic looks but they are not the only game in town. Smack Jeeves, Drunk Duck and WebComicsNation all do the same job (and have a five minute sign-up process). If you want to get your comic up and for everyone to see as soon as possible, there is no reason not to sign up on one of the other sites and either have both running at the same time or run both to see how you like them and then just keep the one that you like best.Anyway, any tips y'all can give me would be nice.
Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
Thanks, Dr Neo Lao. I guess I could try one of those.
I guess I sounded a little cranky; I've been sick a lot lately and I haven't gotten a lot of sleep...
So, I apologize for sounding a bit...mean...it was not my intention.
Anyway, thanks!

Re: Haven't Received Confirmation for FTP Password
Throwing my lot in with the rest of you... After generating my password I never get the e-mail with the Activation Password.
Hopefully this issue will get smoothed out soon!
Thanks very much.
