Hi, this probably sounds exceptionally stupid as everyone seems to have no trouble with this, but I can not figure out how to upload comic pages to the site. I don't understand how auto-updating works or how to upload a comic manually. I've been trying for several days but have yet to be able to figure out how, and have not come across any tutorials. Could someone please give me instructions on how to do this? Please try to be specific as unfortunately I am easily confused. Thank you, I apologize for my noobness.

There are two ways to get your comic images from your computer onto the server.

The first is to use the upload facility in SiteAdmin ( http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/ )Once you log in (use your forum name and password) then you should see an "Upload comic" button - from there it's fairly straightforward.

The second (and recommended) way is to use an FTP function (FTP means File Transfer Protocol - in simple terms, you use a browser [such as Internet Explorer] to look at what is on a website and you use an FTP program to put something onto a website. If you aren't confident with installing and using programs, then use CG's built-in WebFTP client (found here: http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com:8080/ ... eb-ftp.cgi with instructions on use here).

I suggest using the WebFTP client and follow the instructions there.

For the Auto-Updating, all you need to know is that the server will try and update your comic once every 24hours on its own. If you have no new comics, it will do nothing. If you do, it'll put the newest one on the index and update your other pages. All you have to do is to make sure that your comics have the right names.

For example: if you have a comic that you want to show up last Christmas, you would name it 20071225.jpg (which means 2007 12 25.jpg or YYYYMMDD - the year, the month and the day you want the comic to show up). If you have a new comic every Sunday, you can have the comics for several Sundays on the server and it will automatically "publish" each Sundays' comic on the Sunday you want it to. Whilst you have the CGWiki open, you should probably take the time to read some of the tutorials on there (available from this page).

Okay so I let my comic sit a long while and decided to come back to it recently. Of course I can't log into the site admin so I ask for a new password and then change it when I get a new one. That done I still can't log in using IE and have to log in with Firefox.

New problem:
I can't log in my Smart FTP client and I can't log in using CGs webFTP. The instructions link provided by Dr Neo Lao implies that the log in for my FTP client is different. Is it my comic name and should the password be the same as my new forum/admin password or do I need THAT password ressetting as well?

From the context of your post it seems to me that you were a member of Keenspace / Comic Genesis before and that you've recently returned from Hiatus.

The system(s) have changed a bit. If you are having trouble logging into siteadmin, make sure that you are looging into the right place: http://siteadmin.comicgenesis.com/ that's where you go to do "administrative" stuff for your comic account(s). To log in, you use your forum name and password - however! make sure that when you log into the forum you use Tileira and not tileira. If you use the wrong capitalization then the forum will let you in, but SiteAdmin will not.

When you want to access your comic directly (via FTP) you need to use your comic's FTP name and password (different from the forum name and password). 99.99% of the time, your FTP name will be the comic's name. If you can't remember the FTP password, you'll need to reset that. With another However! - you can only do this if you still have the original email account that you signed up with. If you ask for a new password for your FTP account, it'll be emailed to the inbox you signed up with and nowhere else. If you don't still have that email account, it'll make things harder.

EDIT: nevermind. I remembered my password now, or rather I remembered that for once I didn't put a capital letter in it. But for future reference how do you reset the ftp password?
