Wrong/Bad Advertisement
Wrong/Bad Advertisement
On my webpage (http://logocomic.com/), and on everyone's webpage, there is an advertisement at the top of the page (the ***advertisement***) and one elsewhere (the ***newsbox***).
I went to the comic settings in the SiteAdmin to have my ads be G-rated. But even though I did that, the banner at the top of the page shows women in their undergarments every now and then and the one below (the ***newsbox***) shows ads for other webcomics, but the ads are too sexual, showing women in undergarments and some with provacative messages.
I request that I have G-rated advertisement on my webpage. Thank you.

According to the sticky above, if you have a non-NC-17 comic but you're getting NC-17 ads then you need to set your comics rating in the siteadmin.
If you're not sure how to do that (or you've already done it) then post again and we'll see if we can help you...

logo, I have been fighting this battle a long time. I do not have a newsbox on my page for that very reason. Even tho my comic is G-rated (and so marked in the site admin), I certainly get lots of ads I don't consider appropriate. I have complained, posted and send PMs, but his issue has not yet been resolved.
The only thing you can do is follow the instructions in "Banner Ad Problems" thread sticky above. I have given up reporting every single time they come up, as I haven't seen anything being done.

Dr Neo Lao: It's not that my adds are porno or something, but it DOES show women in their under-garments and my ***newsbox*** shows ads for +18 comics. I'd like everything to stay G-rated like how I set it in the site admin. It said it would show ads for the appropriate rating, and right now I'm getting PG-13 ads.
Swikan: Thank you for your support. I'll be one more person here fighting this battle with you and I'm sure we'll have this problem fixed.

I think (and I'm probably wrong on this) but the impression that I got from reading various threads about this topic through the history of the Help forum it appears that the ads are split into just to groups:
I have no idea who does the final approval for the ads before they get added to the system, but you may want to look into organising some kind of petition or something to have the ads segregated by rating or have a new G group created to give users that flexability. That would give three groups: G for kid-friendly stuff, NC-17+ for all the adult stuff and everything else in the third group.
Two obvious problems with that:
First, the admins and staff won't be too happy about the aditional workload.
Secondly, I don't know how many G rated ads there are, since kids generally don't have credit cards to buy stuff on the internet with...

Dr. Leo: There are actually lots of g-rated ads targeting adults. (G-rated does not mean kiddie.) My site picks up toothpaste ads, car ads, service ads, etc., but the "Hot Topless Blond Peepshow" ad currently prominent in the ad rotation is not what I would have on my site.
The CG/Keenspot comic ads should definitely be sorted by content ratings for newsbox and ad rotations. The problem is that the only people who care about this are the authors of G-rated comics, already a minority on CG.
Logo: I am afraid you are on your own from here on out. I am giving up the fight. I love CG's tag and update system for comics and the community here, but I have decided that I'm moving my little comic to my own site.

So, the question I have is, who gets what? Who should have what? Right now, I have the problem described in that quote I cross-posted (blank black space with "Advertise Here"). Meanwhile, logocomic and Swikan seem to be getting the mature ads that should be going to those of us with MA-and-above-rated comics. Who is in charge of this stuff, ultimately, anyway? Kelly's topical sticky is old, but I presume that he is in charge of the ad rotation? Would be cool if he could weigh in on what everyone should be getting and what they should be reporting. The ratings categories are still vague; I was under the impression that I needed to choose MA in order to mention sexual topics in casual conversation, but I wouldn't necessarily describe the rest of the comic as "Mature."in another thread, Cope wrote:I can see an "Advertise here" link where the advertisements go. This is normal, since Comic Genesis doesn't have an advertiser for comics rated MA and above at the moment.
EDIT: For clarification, what I would like to see is: for each rating, an updated (perhaps monthly) list of the sorts of ads that should be appearing, or "none" if there are no advertisers (for whatever reason). Right now it seems that everyone is guessing about what should/should not be there, so a regularly updated sticky would be great.

If you have an issue with the ads, bug Gav on the keenspot forums. The ads themselves are beyond comicgenesis's control. CG just places the ad box that directs ad content from keenspot's servers.
If you selected MA or above, you should see either the jlist ad, or nothing.
If you selected anything below MA, you get the normal ads. There is no difference between anything below MA to advertisers.
oh and changing the rating is not instant, it takes 24 hours for the changes to flow back to the forum server where the adbox logic is.

After seeing that it was going to be frequent T&A women-in-undies ads in the banner box, I put an "artist has no control over the content or imagery of the advertising above" notice on my page, and the scales tipped a little bit more toward me moving the comic off CG. Darnit, I love how CG's updating system takes care of all the pesky details of archiving. Love love love it (when it's working, of course
). But maybe I can find similar software that can be installed on my own site. ::whimper::
I probably wouldn't complain if there were an equal amount of men-in-undies ads showing up in the banner box. It's exhausting trying to find excuses to put half-nekkid lads in my comic just to balance out the stuff in the banner box, I tell ya'....

Well... my newsbox has a has a brief shot of one of my male characters in his boxers... Does that count? ^_~spqrblues wrote:I probably wouldn't complain if there were an equal amount of men-in-undies ads showing up in the banner box.
