n00bish stupidity - HELP!!!

Post by Aeris_GAC »

All right, here's my problem.

I had two comics up. The original one to get the account, and the one I just got up today. So, in an effort to improve the looks of my site, I tried to do the Jaded tutorial for the charcoal template. I got far enough to change the bg color and font color and it did so.

Then I realized my comics size was too big. So I edited it in PS, and re-uploaded it with the same name, after removing the old file. Now, the comic won't come up.

I also removed the code for the color changes, but they're still there.

I'm completely new at this and I fully aknowledge that these problems are due to n00bish stupidity, but please help.

1) I need to get my comic back up
2) I want to change my template

Just so you know in the future, it does usually help to tell us what your site is so we can go look. However, and bear in mind that I'm very new too, I think your problem is that you made changes but you didn't run a manual update so none of your changes are reflected on your site. So I would suggest you go into your FTP workspace stuff, make sure that what is there is what you want, and then go to siteadmin and run an update. It takes a few minutes sometimes, especially if you have to run a full update, so give it awhile before you panic (and there's a bar at the bottom that tells you what number you are in the queue, too).

If someone else has a better idea jump in.

EDIT

Just to let you know, most of your problems will never require a Full Update. It's a very heavy load on the CG Servers, and most of the time a Manual Update is what you want. And usually a good Index Update is all you need.

Yeah - I just remember reading somewhere (I think in the Wiki tutorial?) that the very first time you are setting up your site you need to do the Full Update? I'm not completely clear on some of the things I read in the tutorials though, especially since the key words don't match (like when they say to go to X section in siteadmin and there is something similar but no X option).
