Hmm... I don't know man, I never really like the midi-chlorine (why does that sound like a techno song?) thing in the first place. Couldn't someone just bio-engineer people with high counts of the stuff? Takes all the mystery and unique-itude out of the Jedi, methinks, and I'd say the same thing for...

Heh... when you said four fundamental forces, for a second I thought you meant the four elements. I wonder which one would correspond to which, incidentally? Ah, mmm.... I don't think divine magic would be too hard to implement in the way I've proposed. For most intents and purposes, it just functio...

Allegiance systems really tend to grey up the moral absolutes though. It has both pros and cons... Maybe, but morals need shades of grey; having something like good or evil on your friggin' character sheet just seems sillier and sillier the more I think about it. I mean, I guess it can be a reminde...

Well, either way it goes it's still chosen by someone when they make the character, but I think I see what you're saying. Like someone is born with a penchant for gadgetry, but they choose how best to exploit that talent? Like, either they focus on steam engines, or clockwork robots, or bakelite ele...

Lunaroki: You just made me Squee. On the name subject, I was just coming up with names that sounded good with "mancy" after them, with the exception of white magic of course. I like jaunemancy by the way; it's like jaundice. Mmm... maybe jaundemancy? I like the sound a little better. Thanatos: *Smac...

I agree with alignment systems being iffy, and I'll add limiting to the description. Especially when you toss in arbitrary and unbelievable stuff like the "detect evil" spell. Sort of takes all the challenge and moral quandaries out of the whole adventuring thing, eh? Now, the allegiance idea on the...

I'm not painting technology evil, just unnatural or bad for the planet. Think of it like cancer; cancer is not evil, but it is definitely bad for your health and can spring from bad habits (smoking, charred meat, caffeine perhaps). From a planet's-eye-view, anything that inhibits Gaia's natural meta...

Sometimes setting and rules overlap; besides, this is also the "main" thread. *Shrug* Anyway, one thing that I failed to mention in my Miasma rules set is a theory I came up with a while back for why magic and technology don't work well together. I don't remember the whole thing, but the basic idea ...

Wee! Double-post! Sorry it took so long, but here it is in all its dastardly, ignoble and summarized glory. General Introductory Notes This RP system is one I started designing in Iraq; I call it the Miasma Roleplaying System (I might tell you why if you offer me a cookie). I started it when a frien...

I can even bring a sign that says, "New geek LFG!" I have learned that most geeks do not fear the awkward =) OMG, OMG, OMG, I am totally going to make a t-shirt that says that now! Actually, that reminds me of a one-panel comic idea I had thought up. It would be this elf guy with this goofy, happy-...

I know, I know, I'm sorry. I told you guys I'd have this thing up a few days ago, but it's been a surprisingly trying week at work. I've gotten off late every night except tonight, so tonight is the first chance I've had to work on the rule-set since... Monday, was it? Something like that. Believe m...

That would put three games up at once... A bit belated perhaps, but I think I should point out it could sort of be considered four. Only problem is, no one "plays" mine anymore. Oh well, with so many (relatively) RPs going on in a pretty small forum, it's natural that at least one would fall. I gue...

I only ever played OoT and a few of the Gameboy games--Link's Awakening and those two Oracle games. Honestly though, I have no idea how any Zelda game would translate into a film; it would probably be better for them to go with an original idea. That way if they screw it up they're just screwing up ...

So, we've got the U.S. as a steampunk nation, possibly with some magic thrown in, and Canada as more of a Fallout-type setting with psionics? I like that idea, and it works well with my rule-set as well. Honestly, when I was scrolling back through it in my head, it didn't seem like it would work too...

That's the reason I think it worked; they didn't try to stick too closely to the original source, but instead took the core ideas in a new direction. Koopas? Highly evolved dinosaurs. Goombas? Not-so-highly-evolved dinosaurs. Mushroom kingdom? Highly evolved dinosaur de-evolved into quasi-intelligen...

Darn shame; I was working on an RP system when I was in Iraq. Came up with a decent foundation of stuff--nothing playable, mind, but a decent start on the mechanics. Perfect for a community-development project in other words, imho. Unfortunately, I lost everything I had typed up when I had to euthan...

Man, I wish this would have started sooner; starting next week, I have basically no free time for a week, and then no internet access for a month. :( Is it cool if I check back in on it after I get back in September? I should be back to posting prolly around the 9th or 10th. Heck, I could be somebod...
