I think the MIT guys actually did that once; no time travelers showed up to their's either. I can only assume that it wasn't advertised well enough. One post wonder wrote:I was a part of a group of people setting up to hold a rather well advertised convention for time travelers hoping some one would show up.

By non-combat, do you mean not on a combat patrol, or not in Iraq at all? Most days while I was over there I was on a base-camp doing mechanic work; we carried our rifles with us, but not our flak-vests or anything, and we didn't have to worry about combat outside of intermittent mortar attacks. If ...

Lying in the middle of the crater, the man in fatigues slumbered soundly. Light blond hair touched on his neck and sideburns, though most of it was covered up by his patrol cap. His uniform was of a gray, digital camouflage pattern which the army called "new foliage." This designation had always bot...

Okay. That being said, I guess a couple of my original possessions don't make sense: the umbrella and the fedora, specifically. And the only time I would find myself sleeping in fatigues would be in Iraq or in a training situation, both of which would place me with my rifle and a small amount of amm...

In that case I'd like to claim the mid-sized nation of Arc'lamist: Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. I'm thinking it would be a good place for some fantasy creatures to come out of the woodwork, what with all the voodoo magic being practiced down in LA already. Plus there are plenty of caves and...

That reminds me of a dream I had one time. Probably the single most boring dream I've ever had, but it is still a somewhat interesting story. So I was sitting in the hall at college (or high school, I forget), and without realizing it fell asleep. In the dream, I was sitting in the same hall, and I ...

Hehe, sounds like a regular day in Hollywood to me. :D Odd, though, I was rather envisioning the western states as the place of resurgence for the new native American nations. Assuming there are new nations in the setting, that is. So, let me see if I'm recapping this right. We've got parts of Canad...

Hey, it's only the Spanish Inquisition nobody expects, and last I checked we're not Spanish. At least I'm not. 6.6 It is a little known fact that the ComicGenesis servers are located in Madrid, just a short jaunt down the street from this lovely little bakery where in the summertime, on a clear day...

Yeah, you're probably right. The stuff I came up with might not be the most original in the world, nor is it the most compatible with the setting we've got going either. Still, jobs like fighters, wizards and thieves are common among RPGs for a reason. I'd hate to see a game without any one of those...

Um... at the risk of sounding like a smartass, and hoping therefore that I'm not totally misreading what you're saying, I kinda did already. The rule-set with Miasma at the top of it isn't from another site, it's something I came up with last year. Now, if I am misunderstanding what you meant by tha...

Strange Dreams
So. I had a couple of odd dreams whilst I was out in California, and it occurs to me that a thread for writing down any weird/cool dreams that we have might be a good idea. Had any strange ones lately? Share 'em! Dream 1: I'm sure that there was more to it than this, but the major highlights I remem...

Reading over my ramblings on the dice rolls for skills, it would seem that it warrants an example; I even confused myself a little bit. So here it goes. Let's say Rudy is a level 5 thief with 17 agility. This means that, at a maximum, he could attempt to pick locks with a difficulty of 22. He has pu...

*Grumble grumble* Another double-post *Grumble grumble* Okay, I've made out a rough draft of a blank character sheet. For the weapon slots section, the basic idea is that you put a letter in each slot to represent what you're spending it on. A for accuracy, D for damage, or an appropriate letter for...
