I took the lift, found the lock picker thingy. Now I can't get down OR through the locked door. HELP!

This game is driving me crazy, but I love it. I have the oxygen tank, space helmet, rope, steel bar, credit card, brain, and book. I think that's all. I can't enter the candle shop or get the baby's milk for analysis. I've seemingly exhausted all my options. Please help.
