What kind of gigs could Quentyn take, anyhow?
I still say Quentyn is basically a PI. "Rescue the princess" is a dramatic way of saying "missing persons case" :). The Colin case didn't start out very convensionally but it soon turned into a bodyguard role and then a "bughunt from hell". But...would Quentyn take on a contract for straight bodygua...

Let's please recall that Quentyn isn't operating at anywhere NEAR full capacity physically and mental is a little questionable too :). In other words, he doesn't have the *strength* available to do that quack major bodily harm. Second, let's also recall that the Rac Connan culture isn't *entirely* p...

Yo Ralph: I think you need to start looking at a TOTQ book
Ralph, I think the plotline is getting very close to where you can call "book one - to be continued" a wrap. I'm not saying end the series :) just that this is a good pause point coming up for new readers of a paper version. As I've been saying, you've done a phenomenal job keeping the artistic styl...

Anybody wanna place bets on whether or not our favorite furball is gonna have another run-in with that cult at some point? THAT is gonna get epic. This little mess he just dealt with sets the stage for such a thing, with Rac Conan opponents this time. Which could have gotten morally problematic exce...

Cops have a strong tendency to dislike PIs, which is basically what Questors are :). -------- The other issue here is that gov'ts can't stand admitting screwups. They *HATE* it. Example: in 1933 California mis-classified a domestic animal (the ferret) as wild, and they STILL ban it on that basis. Ca...

On "tool use": "tool" is construed pretty broadly. At the lowest level, a sea otter using a rock to bash open a sea urchin is "tool use" but the "tool" in question isn't purpose-built for the task. A beaver's dam and home are more advanced, as is a bird's nest, but it's still pretty low-level. When ...

Mute people can write, sign or read lips (and still learn to speak, if with a funky accent). They're still "people". See also the Hellen Keller thread. Somewhere around here I have a paperback book with the back inside cover and blank pages filled with a "conversation" I had with a guy whose truck h...

I'm not so sure the rat-king was "sentient" exactly. It was a created monster with quite a bit of smarts but absolutely NO ability to communicate with any other being because it literally hated everything else. We also saw no evidence of tool use, another pointer. ---------- In Quentyn's world, sepa...

Hmm. Something else about the aftermath from the Rat King incident. Quentyn doesn't have to deal with any guilt issues from killing "people". Note that when he did kill intelligent life last time, he probably didn't consider them "people" at the time but the theological questions after that would ha...

Dunno why, but I found myself wondering whether or not Quentyn can pee standing up :). I'm pretty sure Racoons have a "penis bone" like a dog or ferret (and yes, I mean actual calcium bone). A dog on his hind legs couldn't spray it anywhere but practically straight up. Which means if they're similar...
