Re: W.A.Y. 2015 ideas

I'll start a new thread for this on the 21st. Let's go with the thing where we critique individual pages since it's the easiest and the most informal.

Re: the last thread of us

Creating some new threads would be a start. What kind of threads would help make a small community like CG more appealing?

Re: W.A.Y. 2015 ideas

I was actually going to opt out of W.A.Y. this year because I know I don't have the time to commit to full reviews, so the short critique idea is actually perfect for me. I also like Cuddly's super dorky addition to that idea, probably because I'm super dorky. Having Roger critique comics with Dy-G...

Re: 10 Free and Effective Ways to Promote Your Webcomic

Pandering Advertising, consistency, and quality are three strategies to getting more readers, but promotion's a screwy subject since advertising can get expensive, and consistently posting high-quality pages or strips requires a lot of time and work. There's a more efficient strategy, though, which ...

Re: W.A.Y. 2015 ideas

I think it'd be tough to get new people involved- I invited people last year who said they were really excited (in some cases desperate) about getting feedback, but I guess not excited enough to be willing/able to provide feedback for others. And frankly that's one thing that I've really liked abou...

W.A.Y. 2015 ideas

So no one's started it yet, and my idea why's the same as VCC's, which is that it'd probably just be the same few people doing it again. So, maybe it's time to rework W.A.Y. to fit the current dynamic better. Here are a few ideas I just came up with: - critiquing individual pages, open format with n...

Re: the last thread of us

Yeah, I didn't bother bringing up W.A.Y. since it seems like it'd be underwhelming, and also since it'd be a stretch for me to submit anything at this point. I do have some ideas to completely change the format, though, but that's probably better suited for a separate thread.

Reading Tales of Pylea is what got me thinking about this topic since it seemed like you actually like drawing comics.

Re: Ideas for next-level webcomics journalism

That's just obnoxious. They actually admitted it, too: In this podcast, we chat about how we we’re using Video chat on Skype, the Weather, Dawn’s new Surface Pro, Byron’s Manga Studio 5 demonstration in Chicago, smoking pot vs cigars (briefly), Memphis and Graceland, Remakes of Movies, Women as Her...

So post something interesting to talk about. Increased activity doesn't automatically translate to increased quality.

Re: I'll review your webcomic.

Got a new video review for Derelict up: http://www.webcomicpolice.com/2015/08/d ... rsion.html . Trying out some new stuff.

I also reviewed a gag comic called Sad Sacks: http://www.webcomicpolice.com/2015/07/sad-sacks.html

Re: Ideas for next-level webcomics journalism

Holy fuck, I just wasted an hour listening to a podcast called Webcomic Workshop, and they didn't even bring up webcomics until the very end where one of the podcasters talked about his own webcomic for a few minutes.

Re: Ideas for next-level webcomics journalism

So, iTunes has a Podcast section that makes downloading webcomic podcasts super-easy. There's also one from last year where FezWorks interviewed MercuryHat. The podcasts are kinda pissing me off so far, though, as while my sample size is tiny, they've mostly just been people bullshitting around and ...

Re: It's harder than it looks.

The problem with drawing webcomics is that it feels too much like work Yeah, exactly. I mean, some creators can do it, but I just don't care about the characters or story enough, and if I have time for creative stuff, I'd rather spend it working on my blog. Although, I just had an idea for an Optio...

Re: Ideas for next-level webcomics journalism

I'm also looking into doing something nonwriting-ish to supplement the blog, like live-stream reviewing or podcasts or whatever. One idea would be to have a format where people can submit samples for informal, quick critiques. Another idea would be to do something like "The Black Die" again, where I...

I'd actually prefer it if he focused on improvement. While the comic's better than Crux, it has the same issue of being carried by the artwork, and it'd be an unremarkable fantasy story if the visuals didn't enhance the writing so much.

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?

It's been about two years since I updated Freakboy, and while I've been intending to continue it at some point, I've been considering lately that I just don't enjoy drawing that much. Like, it's fun to do here and there, but the thought of drawing another chapter makes me feel kinda nauseous. So, th...

Re: I'll review your webcomic.

Awesome! Thanks for the positive review. :D Well, Chris and you deserve all the credit, as I'm just commentating objectively. I kind of regret not writing more, especially about the art, but the post is already pretty long, and anything I'd write would be similar to what's already in my review of C...
