You're concentrating on chemistry and forgetting the physics. You even said it yourself - hydrogen tanks are pressurized . In an accident, or simply because the hydrogen itself makes them brittle, they will shatter more often than not. And then the hydrogen mixes with the air and conditions are righ...

I don't think that we're going to be vulnerable in 20 years. If we can get past the next 10, we'll be ok. Hydrogen seems to be en route for deployment next decade, early next decade if they rush it. That'll take the pressure off but only if we can crack water a lot cheaper than we do today. Oh, not...

Yeah, Con-Lib is what I always turn up as, too. My own position turns up at about 2/1.5. Government is occasionally necessary but never trustworthy, and planned social progress doesn't work well at all, and -never- the way it's planned. Atarlost, you missed Ralph's actual point in the sermon. I plac...

You may need a religious axis on it, too... only when you get to a four-axis system it becomes -really- tough to draw the picture. But where the hey do the RIFs go if you don't put that on the table? The trouble with the rationality axis is that the people who are acting like loons won't believe it ...

I'm getting really -tired- of hearing that. FEMA is -not- a first responder. It's job is to coordinate recovery efforts, NOT relief efforts! And the sluggishness in N'Awlinz is primarily due to Nagin & Co. whining that the Feds won't give money to their pet kickback contractors and getting in the wa...

Yours expecting yet another dissenting opinion to be erased to preserve your fragile self-worth, The wolfish, Wanderer Nah, Wanderer - that is not a dissenting opinion . That was a rather brainless and insulting diatribe. You'll get bounced for acting like a troll, not because you've got such a mar...

It strikes me as nothing but scientists playing politics--- within their tiny, petty little circle. Some crusty decrepit old fossil of a scientist has issues with the guy who discovered Pluto, and wants to steal his glory by getting his discovery downgraded. Now, that's not fair. They -waited- unti...

Skydancer helped the big tiger wrap up the injured chipmunk and strap her in. "I'd call an ambulance to meet you at the cabins, but you can probably reach the hospital faster than getting one out here." He pulled the last buckle tight and slapped the tiger on the shoulder as he mounted the bike. "Go...

Yep. And when it turned out that the caribou -liked- the pipeline and altered their migration route to take advantage of it... heh. The eco-freaks acted like they'd been betrayed. I suspect that if they hadn't already decided to be vegetarians they would've started a fad for reindeer steaks to teach...

If the Serenity has enough power to go nudging asteroids onto collision courses, the Alliance can pony up a few bigger ships to nudge it away again. We've got a primitive Spacewatch up already - I'm sure a starfaring society would have a -good- one. That presumes that A) the Alliance has the ships ...

Skydancer let Lauril talk until she wound down. "No, stay awake for now, please, Miss Lauril. You've been through a lot, but let's make sure the docs have a chance to look at you before you fall asleep. Some injuries you're not supposed to fall asleep until they've been fixed, I seem to remember." H...

Skydancer was on his way out the door of the lab as soon as he heard the location. He patched into S'aaruuk's commnet as he took off, heading for the cabins. He swooped past them and banked to head upstream, moving at a fair clip. The bat didn't stop as he saw the tiger move out along the trail, but...

I think it's all sorted out by now, Brock. Go ahead and post. As for me, I'll be airborne as soon as I get out the door, and will proceed upstream from the highway bridge. Lauril, you've got choices - do you want me to find you first and call for backup, or would you rather be found by someone else?...

Zactly. Squidge was more of a 'don't judge a book by its cover' thing. A lesson for Quentyn, really, in not assuming that a stereotype always holds. Squidge is a most atypical bogey, but he was that way before he met Quentyn. The elf (or half-elf, whatever) really -was- a bad egg at first. Now we se...
