I doubt it would be anything like a vampiric wound. We know the wights feed on lux, so that there rat just might have wanted to suck the lux right out of Quentyn. He said that they felt EXTREMELY COLD. I don't know if he was referring to actual temperature, or if he was giving the counterpart of a ...

Falcon gives a half-shrug in reply. "Can't really say. If it was a rainstorm I could give you a good estimate, but... this isn't normal weather for here. It seems to be slowing down, and the wind's died off a bit, but I don't know if it'll pick up again before it stops. We can risk it, I think. Wrap...

Falcon sighs. "Not in this kind of weather. The main roads are at least traceable and relatively flat. Going cross-country through snow is asking for trouble. If the young weather-wizard can keep the wind off of us, though, that will help a lot - and anyone following him will have trouble with the w...

Or use the methane in the sewers. If they can alter chemistry enough to increase the burn rate to turn a flammable into an explosive, can they do the reverse? Slow down the burn rate to turn an explosive mix into a merely flammable one? They could do a controlled burn and clear the sewers of methane...

Falcon clears his throat and murmurs, "What our grouchy friend means is, where are we going, when do we have to be there, and can we wait until the storm abates some more? I can understand if Rayne has reasons for keeping the why part of it to himself, but there's not much point in going out and get...

The more I tinker with the "exploding tallow candle" idea, the more it looks like a sort of "shaped-charge explosive". Hmmm... Interesting. Well, after all, he's controlling it. He's enhancing the burn, but only in one particular volume. Any wax floats outside the area he wants to zap, it goes back...

What we really need in this country are a few clear-headed people, maybe 9 of them or so, to have an official position in the government where all they do is make sure that the people's rights aren't infringed. They'd have to be free of political influence, of course... I'm not sure I trust the peo...

Wonder what would happen if you did that with shugger? If by 'shugger' you mean 'sugar' (IE one of the fuels of the human body (or many other bodies, and one that "burns" pretty quick.) then I suspect that the result if you did it RIGHT (which would be hard to do) would be something like the 2nd Ed...

As an example, NPR this morning suggested that, according to one expert, Bush was overstating the danger to the Social Security program, as the program has the funding to keep paying 70% of benefits for about the next 75 years (I'm not sure what the point was there... that 70% was sufficient? Or th...

I'll just say that there actually =is= a way that the Star Wars lightsabers will work as presented. It's not a beam, it's a magnetic bottle full of plasma. The interaction between the blades would work as shown, the fields would pass right through most materials letting the plasma burn through them ...

Hmm. Rayne came in through the swamp, correct? So we could be anywhere on the southern or eastern shore. I'm going to argue strenuously against trying to go ten miles before noon the next day - these little folk aren't going to travel much more than that in a full day on foot, I suspect, in decent w...

The poor kit doesn't need a candle. He needs the NAACP. Sure. Because obviously, he's facing a horde of wight supremacists! Might be. Certainly the Chinese wouldn't be any help. As we all know, two Wongs don't make a wight... (Skydancer hides behind the Big Dude and pretends he didn't just say that...

Ya know, as much as i like democracy, people seem to forget that it is far from a flawless or perfect system. Classic example --- can anyone here tell me who it was, both the person and country this person was in, that was elected with the greatest majority of the votes (for a country) the world ha...
