Re: Audience vs the Story?

Exactly. Also, what VeryCuddlyCornpone said was true - if the story was completely for yourself, you obviously wouldn't go through the trouble of putting it online then, would you?

Re: Audience vs the Story?

Oh, now I see where I went wrong in explaining what I meant. I TOTALLY produce my comic for an audience. I don't make it only for myself. BUT, the audience will never influence what shows up in the comic. i.e. Whether everyone loves it or hates it or thinks it's weird, I'm proud of it. I won't get d...

Re: Who else is a comment and feedback whore?

asshat factories like like the SA forums AHAHAHA Such an apt description. Isn't it something like 75,000 webcomics (on CG) and only 15,000 update? I'm pretty sure that's what spawned the whole "How to Not Make a Webcomic" series, which, by the way, was fantastic. Is that thing still running? For so...

I tell my friends the fact that they aren't in my comic should be taken as a compliment.

Annoying Reader Misconceptions?

This should be a good one:

What is your most unfortunate reader misconception(s)?

So far, mine is that some people think one of my characters is based on an idiotic reality TV celebrity, even though I came up with the character way before the show was ever created.

Re: Last World War One veteran has died

I think that's more fitting, as those who lie in Congress are usually politicians. Frankly, that would have been an insult to the vet.

Man, who even uses the word "frankly" anymore?

Re: Audience vs the Story?

Incredibly true. I've just recently come to the point where I am mature enough to cut out upcoming strips that I spent hours on because I finally decided they weren't integral to what's going on, despite the fact that I was so proud of how they came out. Each time turned out to be a great decision.

Bumping this because it was the last thread on the first page and I refuse to let the last WWI vet fall out of discussion as quickly after his death as most other things.

Re: Audience vs the Story?

Well, I wouldn't say "don't listen to anyone." People can really be full of crap about their own work, and using yourself and only yourself as a guide is an easy route to self-indulgence. Every once in a while you have to come back to the surface and say "Holy shit, someone has to read this nonsens...

Re: Things that frustrate you about your own work

I agree with VeryCuddlyCornpone, I look back to 2008 and the characters look completely different. Also, when I'm coloring and the computer crashes and I forgot to save D: Which my fault, because I meant to save but I forgot. Because of years of this, I now automatically hit Ctrl + S after every fi...

Re: Audience vs the Story?

Fuck the audience and fuck your own whims. Eloquent and true. *bubbles in Strongly Agree in scantron* Here's the thing, it's sort of a trade-off. Most works will stick to what is expected because they need to draw revenue, and the best route for accumulating viewership will guide the artistic decis...
