So, feminist = career woman? Woman who insists on being independent of man? Or what? There are many different definitions of feminism out there... Let's not get into a heated debate about feminism in general. I'd just like to know what would classify as a "feminist comic" in Meq's eyes, 's all. Thi...

I second what Mo said: "feminism" has long become one of those words which means whatever the user wants it to mean. I'd like to think I have several strong female characters in my strip, but almost none of their time is spend discussing gender relations. You need to be a great deal more specific. ...

Either would be interesting to see! If there's feminist characters, could you point me at certain moments or storyarcs that show that?

looking for feminist comics

Hey folks! Is anyone doing comics with a feminist (or, heck, anti-feminist for fun?) bent? Or knows of any? My reading list has gotten smaller in the past years, while webcomics as a whole are multiplying, so I could really use some help finding some comics to review and talk about for WAFU . (Mods,...

Please explain to me how "having no particular interest" is not a bias. Other posters are suggesting you look at this or that good photocomic. You explicitly said you did not because of lack of interest. I call that bias. OK, the part where you quote me I give no example of how I was linked to thes...

Erik, I want to see under 10. I made that excruciatingly clear in my original post. By lobbying for less, I reduce the chances of my own comic being nominated for anything. If I'm competing against photocomics, I have more competition. But let me put it this way, I'd LIKE to compete against photo co...

(To SPQRBlues - awesome, awesome, and yes, we do have very different ideas. Don't want to be terribly antagonistic, but I'm really trying to make my points for a wider audience, not just you. But wooo... nice webcomic!) To AFCErik - Thanks for the PSA! Dude, once again, people lobby for a category t...

OK, first point - SPQRBlues, please link to your comic now RIGHTNOW. I'm a classical languages major and yes, I've been eyeing your icon going "I hope that's a comic and not just one this person wants to do in the future because I want to read it now." Second point - I did a historical old west comi...

I think the problem is that you all who actually post here and CARE about these awards are really not so much the problem (stupid as we may be!). Y'all THINK about who to put in for your noms. If you put yourself in, it's measured and tastefully done. You are not the problem. Yesterday Damonk sat in...

As I understand it, you don't have to nominate in every category, but in any category in which you do vote you have to supply three nominations. What? No, of course not. You can vote/nominate for up to three in each category. And yes, you don't have to vote/nominate in every category. See, this is ...

Commentary on the WCCAs

I know you guys are girding your loins for a new year of criticism, so I feel I gotta get mine in first! http://webcomicsarefromuranus.blogspot.com/2007/01/whats-wrong-with-wccas.html Keep in mind this comes from a supporter of the WCCAs, who wants nothing better than for them to succeed. Also I'm r...

With respect to your research I think I would like to highlight the fact that although people often claim that the portrayal of women as curvy godesses with minimalistic taste in clothing is male driven this is not entirely the case, some of that drive is coming from women. I may have come off a li...

Re: Women In Comics: Help me out here.

1) Your input AS artists , especially female artists or artists with female characters I am female and draw a lot of female characters. A LOT. Mostly because I feel very strongly that the only way to really keep from having stereotypes when it comes to women is to show a lot of them. Because people...

The thing is, and I think I hit on Ghastly's point, is how many Spotters aren't even bothering to come to the Spacer forum and offer help with their found knowledge? Honestly, I haven't heard from a single Spotter, except Sortelli. The way I see it, Keens should keep together and help the community...

Some people should just never draw legs, ever. But they do pretty good comics. For example, I wince in horror when Scott Kurtz draws a full figure. All the problems with figures that're just stylistic things from the waist up stick out and look awful. That strip needs a good chiroprator. But my favo...

Every program for a purpose and and every purpose a product. I love assembling in Photoshop 7. It's what I use for work for graphic design and I've been using it forever for comics. My husband was a big GIMP user, but switched to Photoshop just because it was easier for me to teach him the shortcuts...

I tend to read a LOT of story based comics, so I ignore their updating schedules, and then check back every month or when I'm in the mood for a particular comic and see what's happened while I was gone. They just read better when taken in chunks, and it's how I prefer to read. I get anxious with dai...
