I got paid for some comics today (and by that I mean comics that I've drawn and sold at my LCS). The payout amount was just enough to cover the cost of Craig Thompson's Habibi, which comes out this Wednesday.
No, the date changes slightly each year, but it's October-November-ish. I've said this over and over: I really wish they would just pick a goddamn day and stick with it. :-? Makes for easier planning ahead if I can ever convince my boss to let us do it at his store, you know? Anyway, I did one once...
I can't even find good quills here. I have to ask my sister to get them from abroad. They finally started selling faber-castel's pitt artist pens than I like in a nearby shop, but when I use them it seems as if the ink was watered down, blacks are not exactly black and all... how is that possible? ...
Indeed I have a blog. It only has my comic and the occasional other piece of artwork on there, though. I might edit some of my "book reports" (I've taken to writing short little summaries of whatever books & graphic novels I've read lately) and post those up sometime. Who knows!
I'm going to be on the community radio station again tomorrow, discussing a drawing jam that I'm going to be a part of on Saturday. It's sort of a going-away party for our friend, a local guy who works for Image - he's moving back to Calgary at the end of the month. Also got a big pile of work dumpe...
Newest comic: Story, page format. How to make it work? Complicated writing tutorials seem extremely boring, so I've come to a conclusion that I should do it the way I like instead. I keep everything in my head, concentrating on the present, imagine how it would look like as a scene in a tv show and...
MixedMyth's stuff owns, as usual... :D Last night I got bored on Facebook, and decided that space suits are ridiculously fun to draw (they are! Don't try to deny it!!). I then asked if there were any characters people would like to see in space suits. Luckily, my FB friends are just as weird and goo...
During my first year of college I'd stay up almost every night till 1 or 2 in the morning, drawing (as I usually didn't have to be out of bed till 10AM). Sadly, I can't remember the last time I did that. :( I also find that I'm less tired the less sleep I get. 6 hours seems to be the magic number fo...
Many years ago I was drawing a comic that my ex WROTE. (based on my concept and characters) I can never revisit it unless I rewrite the whole thing from scratch.
A back cover for my third book. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v424/dlmx13/ish03-backcover.jpg (the strange glyphs aren't supposed to mean anything; but if they do it's probably something that sounds really deep and profound on the surface but is actually just the insane ramblings of my main char...
Last night: - met a really lovely older couple who bought two pieces from my art show at the other comic store (they weren't at the opening, which was in January, which is why I only just met them now) - bought a (ridiculously unnecessary but still awesome) Joe Ledbetter lunch tin from the same stor...
A number of my friends asked if they could be in my comic, so I just told them I'd draw them as patients on the psychiatric ward in my next issue. They actually thought that was the coolest thing ever.
I also used to hang around on a really snarky art forum where the twisted philosophy was "an artist should ONLY seek out constructive criticism, because mindless praise won't teach them anything." Sound like a bunch of assholes who liked to cut other people down. Oh yes. They delighted in it. I sti...
I've been this way for years. :o It bothers me greatly. I shouldn't require constant feedback. What's wrong with constant feedback? As long as it's good. I guess my problem with it is that I really WANT to promote the heck out of my comic online, but I know that shameless self-promotion is g...
