Bugger that. I call 'em comic strips. They're written in strips. A strip isn't a whole page. Tell me which one's wrong now, eh? "Comic" was originally used to refer to how the strips were humorous. However, as you've pointed out by clarifying your use of "comic strip" based on the fact that it "isn...

Drama is more involved and requires more planning, making it more actual effort. Comedy can be hard but it gets easier and easier the more you train your mind to look for gags. Just ask anyone about my puns. - Joel Fagin I write and time comic and dramatic delivery about the same way. There's no me...

You don't need a good scanner if you just want lineart. You can get a cheap 11x17 scanner for $150(all others at that size cost over $1000) :o I need an 11x17 scanner very very bad. On Newegg they only have the super expensive ones. Where o where can I find a cheap 11x17 flatbed? It's the Mustek A3...

the scanner software that comes with hewlett packard scanners works surprisingly well, produces some damn fine lineart from scans.. You don't need a good scanner if you just want lineart. I've heard the scanning software you use is just as important as the hardware, and by using different software people have gotten good results from low end scanners. Just throwing that out there. I can't remember any software names offhand so this comment won't be much help, but it's something to lo...

The news is a little different though. It can be updated at any time and is always current so any news on paper is already old news. Things like books and such can't be judged the same way. I was commenting on its familiarity more than anything. The newspapers aren't being ignored by the younger ge...

When more people have grown up used to computers I think that kind of preference for books will lessen. Kind of like how older people still read newspapers but most youngsters don't. At the same time computers or whatever portable standards for reading develop are more or less fixed in size. You hav...

Re: Some questions for comic readers and writers
IF a comic offers printed versions, do you buy them? No* Do you PREFER them? Yes. *Well, I have bought some, but only of webcomics I had never read previously. If I do that and end up liking the book I'll probably buy collections later, but not keep up with updates on the website. If a webcomic I f...

When creating a comic,.. it all mainly comes down to me wanting to just draw a character looking cool and kicking ass. It seems to me that you could benefit from working with a writer and/or an editor. I think I'd probably benefit from the same thing. My problem is more about losing my zeal for a g...

Making money is pretty hard unless you have a big fanbase. 100,000+ regular readers are needed before you will really see any sort of income that actually means anything. You're right about needing a lot of readers, and before anything else the main thing anyone who wants to make money from their c...

A problem I have, as a reader, is that I tend to read just the text bubbles. I only refer to the pictures when the dialogue becomes unclear. Is there a good way, as a writer, I can counter this? Make the art more important to the storytelling. Every panel in a comic doesn't need to be focused, and ...

Breaking the dialog up does work to keep the readers... reading. I agree that its meaningless since the actual amount of dialogue doesn't change(so there's no reason to present a counterargument to me), but it's just the way people are. Also spreading balloons between more panels means they take up ...

Decompression isn't about showing scenes in slow motion. It's about highlighting things that would be glossed over using punchier styles. A decompressed fight scene simply shows the sequence of blows in proper succession: punch-block-counter-etc. A non decompressed fight gives a summary of said figh...
