TWC Incentive Malfunction
I've recently joined TopWebComics.com and have made my first attempts at offering an image incentive to encourage votes. As of yet, it does not seem to work as it should and I'm certain the problem is on the ComicGenesis side not the TWC side. People are able to click on the voting button just fine,...

While some responses so far have been intelligent/helpful, most people seem to be missing the point of this thread. This is not "Do you, personally, approve of/smoke pot?" The question is "what genre would best describe my comic". Quite frankly, the poor author is not really in a place to care if yo...

I knew a cartoonist who had a file cabinet full of references that he pulled from magazines, catalogues, newspapers, etc. That's called a reference morgue, one of my all-time favorite art terms. My own morgue is primarily electronic, and contains thousands of images of all sorts. I love that term, ...

The Faber-Castell brush pens are way nicer than the Pigma ones. But yeah, they don't hold a candle to a real brush. A really good brush has the capacity to give you a super-fine line and won't dray nearly as quickly. You don't have to set up a proper work area and refill on a regular basis so that ...

if you guys decide to go through with this I'd gladly contribute. Silliness + SciFi = Awesomeness The great thing about doing this red-robin style is that you don't have to worry about plot and characters. They'll just be added along the way as people contribute. The only responsibility regarding s...

This could be a very fun and engaging way to get to know other members of the community. I love seeing different people's renditions of the same character - though I agree that a "predefined" cast could help limit the confusion. What would a good rounded cast need? What do you find in the average co...

As mentioned by others, light source ect could stand for a little attention. That detail aside, I actually rather like the way the image turned out, especially for a first go. While I wouldn't say it could pass as Frank Miller-esk, I would say it would make an adequate Miller-esk parody . The style ...

I've learned to forgive myself for infidelity to any one technique ^_^(). I'm an inker at heart - some things can only be accomplished with good old fashioned ink pens and paper. Other things... well, a tablet used right (and a corresponding brush!) can reproduce a line almost identical. So I go bac...

Sometimes it's just a unique challenge! Try taking an animal, altering its anatomy so that it still 'is' the same animal, but with human-esk features. The more creative the better, I feel with the furry realm... Insects and turtles tend to fascinate me... and when they MIX animals... Hoo. I saw a sp...

I agree that critiques can help, but saying "It looks like crap, here's why..." could be worded better. "I see what effect you're trying to have here placement/setup wise but it could be improved by..." I'm not saying people here are THAT bad, of course ^_^. But artists just are harsh people. It can...

Hey, man. This is a good idea you have here. I'm afraid I can't offer up my current comic (copyright drama, anyone?), though I wouldn't mind drawing a short children's story that can be accessed from Comicopia... I'm a hundred percent of the same stance. I enjoy making comics, and while for many re...

*whistles* Wooo... people sure know how to come down hard on a guy! It's something I've noticed with artists - if you imply you're not certain on how an image looks, they WILL tell you it's wrong. I do agree - your style so far is a little rough, but you're only starting out, and the first thing a p...

Which I suppose takes us all full circle ^_^. There are some pretty interesting comments that I suppose I hadn't considered before (that could, through context, apply to anyone). I like the comment about keeping scenes/strips short for those of the short attention span... Even if you're in the middl...

You guys are all missing the most important part. People read webcomics the most while they're procrastinating at work or school. So, it'd have to be one of the weekdays. And which weekday are people the most unhappy to be at work or school? Monday. I wholly agree with this one! Monday seems the mo...

Oh, on the contrary! I'm a plot person, too, so I know exactly what you mean. I wish I'd been more coherent when I'd said the previous message ^_^. You're absolutely right - basing a story entirely around a character and hoping a plot would incidentally crop up is rarely the most productive approach...

(wow, even better advice I'm going against - don't reply when you've been drinking!) Again, go with what you want to do most! The strongest characters stay with you far before and far after a story! Make characters you love, and work a story around them. No matter how inane a story is, good characte...

Agreed with the rest of the crowd - I wouldn't find it offensive but if someone else does, they got on the internet of their own free will. In a world where porn will just pop up randomly (like randomly finding a $20 in the wash ^_^), they knew the horrible, horrible risks when they opened the brows...
