Re: Update Site Design?

I just updated my site, George, using WordPress/ComicPress. I really love it; it's fantastic. It's something to think about using if you're going to give your site an overhaul.

I'm about the same as everyone else...I sometimes get foggy on the supporting cast if I haven't used someone in a while, but the main characters are pretty much unforgettable.

For some people, it's easier to write comedy. For other people, it's easier to write drama. For some people, it's difficult to write either. For some other people, both are easy to write.

"Web Cartoonist" is what I would call myself if someone pressed me to narrow it down past just, "Cartoonist." "Webcomic maker" would work, but it's very informal.

Anyway, 25 and single.

I would never quit my day job, because it's great, has good benefits, a very good pension plan, and it pays well. If against all odds I managed to rake in $30k a year off my webcomic I still wouldn't quit it. So, what's the difference if I don't make a dime off it? I would love to make some decent s...

Each of my comics takes an average of 5 hours to complete. Not that I make one every day, though. Anyway, I make enough money to cover my hosting fees, but...well, my hosting fees are only like eight bucks a month. If a really high-traffic site ever did link to me, it would destroy it.

There are more than I thought!

I know it's not a lot, but there are still more self-sufficient webcomics out there than I thought there were.

Check this out, it's a nice little cheat sheet to look at when you're trying to decide what perspective to use for a panel:

http://www.gocomics.com/foxtrot/2007/12/23/ Bill Amend is a pretty beloved syndicated cartoonist, and even he puts minimal effort into his "crowd" characters. Now, obviously, FoxTrot is not a comic that features in-depth, realistic, detailed artwork to begin with , but I think this gets the point a...

These are just the ones admissible by Wikipedia.

Which, of course, means that for every one on that list, there are a dozen more out there that are simply not worthy of mentioning.

IF a comic offers printed versions, do you buy them? Do you PREFER them? - If it's a comic I love very much, I buy them. I really do prefer hard-copy books of those comics that I love, as well. If you offer printed books of your comics; WHY do you? Was it requested, did you see a potential for prof...

Personally, I think a good rule of thumb is to develop your comic around four times larger than it will be on the web. Maybe some will agree or disagree--I've just found that it works for me. Or, if you're working for print exclusively, I'd recommend you develop it at 300dpi at the size at which it ...
