Re: Introduction Thread - Welcome to the New and Old

Postings are few and far between here these days. There's only been about a dozen posts in the last two months... :(

Re: What are you reading?

I still read my two mainstays - Schlock Mercenary by Howard Tayler and Girl Genius by Studio Foglio but that's a bit of a cop out since they are both pretty much pillars of the webcomic collective. They've been around since the early days and work to a really professional standard. I haven't found a...

Re: Can't Log Into CGWiki? Post here.

There is so much that is broken at CG... :'(

Since the Wiki has been broken since 2013 and it is still broken, I'll un-sticky this thread. We'll have to start a new one and take inventory on what is working and what isn't.

Re: trying to fix old old comic, please help

I've been away from CG for about five years and everything seems to be broken. Stredwolf posted in Jan / Feb last year, not sure if they're still around...

I always used Filezilla or other installed FTP clients rather than a hosted option. Any particular reason you prefer Net2Ftp?

Re: Advertisement Redirect or Malware?

Just let your readers know if something like this scomes up to grab a screenshot or at least try and identify which Ad caused the popup (or at least what was there when it happened). It'll help identify the cause. Until (or if) it happens again, not much more to do I guess.

Re: Advertisement Redirect or Malware?

I refreshed a bunch of times with Firefox on Linux and didn't get the pop-up or re-direct (no adblockers installed). I did have a look through your code and noticed that you have two </ body> and </ html> tags in there. Shouldn't be too much of an issue but you may want to go over your templates. Si...

Re: Taken/Inactive URLs?

This hasn't come up too often but will become more of an issue as time goes on. Good names get taken and then, as is often the case with webcomics, the account goes inactive. However, because they are part of a creative work with copyrights involved, the titles (ie domain / url) of the webcomic beco...

Re: Can't access old House of LSD comic

Unless someone else archived and hosted the original comic (which would technically be a breach of copyright), then your only option would be to get in contact with the author and see if they are willing to release the original run, maybe as a zip file for longtime fans.

Re: Internet

To start with, you can get away with a minimal plan because no matter how fantastawesome your comic is, you won't get many visitors to start with, at least not until the word spreads around. Unless you have a prior internet item (such as a blog) with an existing fanbase that will follow you to this ...

Re: Introduction Thread - Welcome to the New and Old

Am I old enough to qualify as "old school"? I haven't been working on my comics in a while but I have an excuse - got married, have kids and joined the army. Probably not the right order to do it in since I spend a lot of time away from my lovely wife now, but service before self. Currently out on t...

Re: Be Honest, I totally suck at this Site Admin thing

If you registered after the 6th of May 2009 then you won't be able to get into SiteAdmin ... like, at all. However, STrRedWolf says you ought to be able to use QuickAdmin which is a temporary workaround. Use your forum name and password to get in (I think - if you can't get in, try your comic's FTP ...

Re: Storyline dropdown problem

I assume you're using the ***story_archive*** keentag with dropdown.txt? The difference that I can see between the two comics is that on Lazylonewolf's is this line: <select name="section"><option value="http://lazylonewolf.comicgenesis.com / GeoDuck's does not have that space at the end before the ...

Re: Alot of problems with site creation

I'll start with the easier question: For the images, you need to link to them but remember that the link will start from where the link is. On a server, the "base" of your folders and such is called "root" (like plants). In filezilla, you'll know if you're looking at root because it'll list your ser...

Re: Comic not generating new content

If your comic is Frontier 2170 then it seems to be working at the moment (bar the error on the previous day). If you're getting just raw code then that manes that the file didn't get parsed by the server. Double check to make sure that the template went into the workspace folder and not into the pub...

Re: Comic not generating new content

Which html files are you editing? You ought to be editing the templates in the workspace folder. The templates are named indextemplate.html and dailytemplate.html - you download them, edit them and then upload them to the same place. Make sure the names are correct. How are you dating the comics? Th...

Re: FTP Problems (Still)

SiteAdmin and FTP use separate passwords. With your current FTP username and password, can you log into your comic via CG's WebFTP ? If you can, there is an issue with Filezilla - try another version or another ftp program. If you can't, then there is an issue with your password. Are you trying to u...

Re: ***Advertisement*** Banner Glitch? [UNSOLVED]

No, that's supposed to happen. The ToS clearly state that the Ad needs to be at the top of the page (specifically, "above the fold"). If the server does not find the ***advertisement*** keentag in the top section of the code then it will add it in for you. If you want the Ad to be at the bottom (or ...

Re: activation code

Can you see your comic using a browser? That's not the activation email, that's the Welcome email. It has your url and FTP password there in the middle. You should be able to see your sample comic if you go to your comic's url (or a blank, black screen if you use IE - see this page and this page if ...
