Have an employee they haven't seen before or a friend come in and act like a customer and ask rediculous questions. Like "Is the fish in the fish sandwhich from the Pacific Ocean or the Atlantic?" and "Do the cows you use for beef eat corn or wheat?" and crazy stuff like "Can I get fresh ground garl...

I guess it was a good thing I was referring to modern manga and not woodcut prints from the 1600s then. Actually I wasn't refering to wood block prints either. I can't remember the exact name of what I'm thinking of, but it was an illustrated story done on a scroll. Blehh, I forget the name. Someth...

But manga in Japan has been around since... I'd say about the 1940s. Then came along the good Doctor Tezuka, who single-handedly jumpstarted the entire manga industry with his mangas Blackjack, Astroboy, Dororo and Kimba in the early 50s. Hehe, actually the term "manga" and graphic stories were aro...

But don't doubt that anybody besides otakus themselves would enjoy being called as such. It's kind of like being called geek or nerd. Or perhaps a 'trekkie,' to be more accurate. Geeks and trekkies will often semi-humorously refer to themselves as such. I know I do. It's the same with otaku. Even t...

But I often find deluded people here in the US that believe their fannishness will somehow be viewed as endearing by the average Japanese person. Haha! My favorite are the people who proudly call themselves "Otaku" and don't even know it has a negative connotation. And that's why anime conventions ...

I remember when some time ago one of the art gallery sites I was on (Side 7 maybe? I forget) made a big stink about classifing art as "Anime". They said they would only allow it if it was fanart of an anime character. Anime styled art had to be filed under the appropiate tag of "people" or "fantasy"...

I love creating characters. Its one of my favorite parts about making a story. That said, I tend to use the same 5 characters that I use in my Kill Whitey comic A LOT. There's the sweet and niave shy girl, the out-going sexy virgin, the gay asshole, the straight asshole and the sly mysterious gender...

Swikan: Manga in Japanese simply means the same thing as Comic in English. So why differentiate manga and comics if we're speaking English. Would a Japanese person, living in Japan, drawing in an American comic book style say "Watashi wa Comic kakimasu!" (this is probably VERY bad Japanese... its be...

I always love big informative cast pages. If I'm already into the comic, I like them when they have fun little tidbits that don't get brought up in the story but are still realted to the character. Like favorite food, like, dislikes and hobbies. If I'm not into the comic, these type of things still ...

I've actually been working on a new story that involves a whole seperate... world? Not sure what it is, but as its completely seperate from our own, I'm finding I have to create all new myths that work with the story. Still not sure how I'm going to pull it all off, since a lot of the traditions can...

Oh! I love the "moer fan service plz!" comments. They're always mixed in with the "You need to put a warning about the maturity of your comic." I actually never even thought about it (I just write how my friends and I talk, even if its laced with vulgarities) until I started asking to trade links wi...

I haven't had any hate mail, but I have had the "You're good at art so you owe me something" type people. I had a guy recently who approached me for a commission. He said he liked my deviantart gallery and comic (which is, in general, full of cuteness and girly things and more cuteness) and then ask...

I've gotten a few odd looks about the name of my comic, mostly from adults tho. The one annoying thing I get about all my art though is comments like "This is too anime, I hate anime!" directly followed by "I really only like anime, and this is just not anime enough." My comic has a very cartoony st...

9/11 is just one of those shared moments for Americans (and others too.) Everyone will remember where they were and how they felt on that day and its one of those things that we can share with people of our generation. Its like the Berlin Wall or Kennedy's assassination. And as the people with that ...

Considering my comic is most often mean spirited and pretty cruel I really don't think I could do a 9/11 comic. I'd just be... so not tasteful. Personally, I like how Bleedman addressed the issue in his The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy comic. A few people got a little touchy about it, but it w...

I've been told my comics portray a lot of emotion. Here's what I came up with just from my stuff. #1- http://www.damn-the-man.com/strips/tb/tb04.html #4- http://www.damn-the-man.com/strips/tb/tb06.html (I meant for his expression to be the "Wouldn't you like to know kind".. according to some readers...

For a while there I was planning on becoming an art major (probably in animation or illustration) but I gave it up since I didn't have enough money for a good art school. But I took some community college art classes like animation and watercolor and in both we did live nude models. You have NO idea...

Basically, blobs with holes in a few places. The top panel has one of my crowd shots: http://www.damn-the-man.com/strips/ep01_p06.html Just keep it easy and vauge. For the one above I just layed out a whole bunch of circles randomly, then connected them, added legs to the bottom part, some raised ha...
