Well, I use a chinese calligraphy inkstick and inkstone... and grind new ink every time I need some. The ink I get beats india ink any time as I can control how black I want it to be. Oddly I misread "inkstick" for lipstick when I was scanning through your post. I was even thinking, "wow! She draws...

I wholeheartedly agree with this: What I dislike is american(or european/canadian/brazillian,etc) artists that take the worst elements of anime/manga and try to use it as a crutch for their comic. It always irritates me whenever I come across a shojo/romance/manga inspired webcomic and the author pu...

I highly recommend Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain . It has a great section on proportions. These diagrams for example have been very beneficial to me (sorry for the bad quality, but these were taken with a digital camera): http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y246/lilsuika/etc/proportions_full.g...

Thank you everyone! Again, your feedback and advice helped a lot. I did a little tweaking here and there, and tried to fix the problematic areas as best as I could (if only I hadn't flattened the layers beforehand *sigh*). Alas, I don't think I can work on this anymore -really must be working on the...

Thank you for the feedback! I knew there was something off with her hand, but couldn't figure what it was. Definately will try to make it less swollen looking.

I also was going for a very light, watercolor look but it definately could use some darker shadows to add more contrast.

Would Like a Critique

I did this illustration for my soon-to-be-relaunched comic (yep, the one in the sig), and would like a critique. It's a finished picture (or more like, I'm sick of working on it :x ) and I probably won't be working on it anymore, but I'd like to hear some advice - what works, what doesn't, how off i...

I missed it completely the first time as well. It also took me several tries to actually find it. Definately bring up the contrast or try to make it a little more obvious.

Strangely, this is starting to remind me of "Where's Waldo"... ^^

It would be much more dynamic if there were some line weight in there.

Ah, I can see a big difference now. imo, the version with the contrast looks a lot better. The lines are nicely crisp and clear, and easier on my eyes.

Also I've found that when things are resized, the lines do tend to get fuzzy...

It usually works for me too. But sometimes I end up doing illustrative drawings instead of working on my comic (like I should be doing right now).

I vote for the first option. Cropping it like that in the 2nd version makes it painfully obvious that you're trying to hide something. And it's a shame as well, seeing how well you drew the hands... and considering that it's not the hands that are the problem but the arms...

Come to think of it, there are artists who use pencil but can make it look like ink (I couldn't even tell the difference). The trick is tracing paper and to press hard.
