Felt-tipped stuff works great, and dries fast. (but not markers.)

I use Staedtler pigment liners. They're really good. A little pricey for pens, but the picture will always look great.

A common one I see is all the characters in somewhat like a photograph, with party hats, or something of the sort. That would be cool.
