My father joined the Unitarians a few years ago (oddly enough, about the same time my step-sister joined the Primitive Baptists). Whew - bet your family get-togethers are interesting... :o You have *no* idea. People popping in and out of the closet, religious conflicts, several recent divorces (inc...

It's really only since the whole 60s "Dawn of the Age of Aquarius" deal that "alternative" religions really got started, and that was mostly sparked by kids who wanted to really do something to be different from their parents. ...Of course, most of the people who started those alternative religions...

I'm surprised that RKCoon is surprised that two christians are in disagreement. I'm surprised that you're surprised that he's... ah, nevermind. Especially since, throughout history, arguments about the fine points of the faith have kept christians arguing at each other since pretty much the day aft...

Hmm. Curious. two people, of apparently the same faith, yet two separate views of such? o.O *That* bothers you? Seriously, why would you expect Christians to be monolithic and homogenous? Especially those of us who don't have the resources or inclination to devote all of our time to theology? Scien...

Some very excellent points, Firemane. THo i am not Christian (and, in fact, very proud of such ), Your quite right, very often, those claiming to a faith dont have a clue in thier hell what they are talking about. THis is by no means limitied to Christianity mind you; I cant count the number of tim...

As to the other thing... I'd like to suggest something here that I encourage in all other forums. Documentation. If you want to refute another person's point, it really helps to list your sources. Otherwise, it ends up being like an argument between two children: "Is Not!" and "Is So!", ad nauseum....

I knew a wiccan in highschool, so this line of comics has me twitching a little. All I can hope for at this point is a coven picketing the store. For one thing, most of the holidays we celibrate today were converted from other religions, or just share months. (Paginism, wiccan, etc.) In this case, ...

Firemane, 1)If you think the press isn't overwhelmingly LEFT leaning, you're in a state of denial no amount of facts will change. It's observed, it's documented, it's tabulated, it's been put on display. Go pick up a copy of "Treason" by anne coulter, a self-named conservative, and "Bias" by Bernar...

And as far as the ACLU goes, remember this is the group that - among many other crazy things - went to court to support the right for neo-Nazis, skinheads and KKK to march through a Jewish neighborhood with their filth and slime. I fully support the right of stupid people to do stupid things... pre...

Nobody disputes that people, even enemy combatant prisoners, have certain rights. What bothers me about the situation is the definition of "enemy". My understanding (from following the news, for reference I primarily listen to NPR, which I know has a liberal slant but I believe they also have at le...

"By those simple lines in the Constitution the ACLU has no right to bring the USSC down upon those county courthouses in the south and other places that want to display the Ten Commandments. GI Joe, ahead of it's time?
You know, now that you mention it, the fact that G I Joe came out in the 80's is kind of weird, considering how well the theme fits today. They fought terrorists, although at the time, the "enemy" were the communists. In fact, I think they teamed up with their Russian counterparts on a couple of occ...
