Re: Douglas Adams Vs. Terry Pratchett: The War of the Writers!

It always takes Terry about a book to refine his character to the point where you think "Ah ha! That's him/her/it." Death, Vetinari, Vimes, Carrot and Weatherwax were all weaker, more diluted versions of themselves in their first books.* - Joel Fagin * And I'm not counting the fat-fingered Patrician...

Re: Douglas Adams Vs. Terry Pratchett: The War of the Writers!

Douglass is good and all but he's sillier than he is funny and silly is much easier. Terry uses cleverer and often very subtle humour. I've read his books for the tenth time and picked up new jokes. He's also very wise and profound, especially compared to Douglass's daft randomness. Plus, you know, ...

Re: Marvel or DC? Not Mac or PC.

I was hoping arguement would go towards considering which ones are less of what you said... I had an impression that DC were the ones who were overdoing it in angst, gigantic crossovers and pointless alternate universes, while Marvel were more copicats keen to soap-operish melodrama... but it's pro...

Re: Marvel or DC? Not Mac or PC.

I dunno. It's hard to choose between a bunch of whiney, self-absorbed social outcasts drawn in a overly exagerated style targetted specifically at the teenage male audience involved in stories with dismal plots, miserable characterisation and contradictory deus-ex-machinas made up on the fly by feud...

Re: For the curious - Swine Flu Thread

Ok I read some fear mongering in the paper about how we'd all die if H1N1 and SARs combined into a super virus. Now, I know that viruses don't have sex, but considering this was in a major fucking newspaper, I want confirmation its bullshit so I can feel superior. Well, in Australia, they're worrie...

I know of the last one. I remember the weird head. Don't know it's name, though.

Hit me with some Aussie snakes instead. They're easy. There's "WhoaBetterNotGoNearThat", "AuuughGetBack!", "I'llCallAnAmbulance" and "NiceKnowing...OhYou'reDeadAlready."

Re: For the curious - Swine Flu Thread

I'm not afraid of the swine flu because I can pick up antibiotics on the street corner for a couple bucks. Antibiotics are for bacteria. Viruses are the ones which are competely impossible to cure. Your immune system either kicks them out and you get better or you die. Vaccines prevent you from get...

Re: Star Trek (Spoilers)

A TV show would be a terrible idea. There's nothing you could do episode in and episode out that would be new. Everything close enough to Federation space in this era is already completely played out. Although... Kahn would make a good villain for a bit if you let him take over a planet and get some...

Re: Star Trek (Spoilers)

I did roll my eyes at Sylar being Spock at first but damn, he was good! In a very specific way, I think he saved the movie. If you had brought in the old version of any other main character, the difference between old and new would have been jarring. The new actors were good substitutes in themselv...

Star Trek (Spoilers)

*thumbs up* Definitly even numbered. Great fun. And curiously restrained. There was homages to practically everything but they were so subtle that you could easily miss half of them. The villain mirrored Kirk's famous quote with his "SPOCK! SPOCCCCCKKKK!" moment, all three uniform types showed up* a...
